My favorite protein powder is the David Kirsch Vanilla or Chocolate flavor (I lean towards vanilla because it is more versatile for my shake/meal recipes). I buy it in the jug (it comes in individual packets as well). I cannot find a powder that beats this in as far as amount of fiber offered per serving, calories per serving, and protein gm per serving. Plus, it tastes well enough that it does not have to be mixed with milk or juice to make it down the esophagus. It is pricier than some (but David's website offers a 10% discount if you purchase on a auto-refill-every-30-days basis). See below for details or go to David's store: http://www.davidkirschwellness.com/_...TEIN_PLUS_JUGS

What is the difference between soy protein and whey protein?
Soy protein comes from soybeans, which is a legumes a source of carbohydrate. There are three problems with soy protein. The protein from soy is not complete; it is missing one of the essential amino acids, called methionine. Most soy protein powders are fortified with this amino acid, making it complete. However, it is important to know that most soy protein products are processed using hexane and other toxic chemicals, which are not safe for the body. Also, the body does not easily absorb soy protein. It has a low biological value meaning, a significant percentage of the protein passes through your body unused. It is an inferior source of protein to whey protein. Additionally, soy protein can be bloating and estrogen-producing which unless you are perimenopausal , can cause a whole host of problems. Why is whey better?
Whey Protein is the best source of protein, second to eggs. Whey Protein is micro filtered so fat and lactose are removed. Whey has the highest digestion/absorption levels of all proteins. It accelerates muscle development, increases antioxidant levels and thus, destroys free radicals. Whey provides the body with the building blocks necessary for each cell to produce Glutathione, the body's master antioxidant and healing agent.90 Isn't whey protein just for athletes and body builders?
No, absolutely not. It has been the protein of choice for athletes and body builders because it is the most easily absorbed, purest source of complete protein available, in a convenient powder that can be added to a variety of foods. It is so pure it is perfect for babies, as soon as they are weaned off the breast, growing children (it strengthens bones), teenagers (it helps prevent and treat ADD and ADHD), and adults (especially busy ones). It is perfect for the aging, because when you age: first your ability to digest protein lessens, and your muscles start to diminish. Whey protein isolate is very easily absorbed, and is extremely anabolic, meaning it helps build muscle mass, and it is a powerful immune-booster, so it helps prevent sickness and disease. Who needs it and why?
Anyone who is trying to lose weight - each shake is only 180 to 190 calories for a complete meal replacement
Anyone who needs healthier solutions for the "Fast-Fit Lifestyle" - it's a nutritious yet, time-saving solution, giving you half your protein RDA for the day
Athletes in training - Protein plus provides amino acids muscles need to recuperate quickly
Anyone who is lactose intolerant - Whey Protein has less than 1% lactose compared to other proteins
Why is it good for me?
Great preventer of acne/breakouts and promoter of healthy hair/nails because of natural protein and vitamins A, C, D, E.
Good for reducing cholesterol, improving joint health and digestion
Good for balancing hormones, improving response to stress, and contains brain-boosting ingredients.
How much do I take and when?
For those trying to lose weight, David recommends 2 meal replacement shakes/daily - one for breakfast and one for dinner and/or as a snack in between meals. For athletes in training, drink a shake 45 minutes post-workout. Can I mix it with any type of milk?
Protein Plus is to be mixed with water in order not to exceed the appropriate dose of protein (25 grams) per meal. Can I use your Protein Powder if I am lactose intolerant? Yes, David Kirsch?s MRP is made from 100% whey protein isolate which is lactose free and is hypo-allergenic, meaning it rarely causes allergic reactions. Lower quality, cheaper protein products use blends including whey, soy and other protein derivatives. These often contain lactose and can cause allergic reactions including stomach upsets, bloating and other digestive problems. Anything else I need to know?
It's low carb, low fat, with no sugar, artificial colors or flavors.

I know this is spam, but that's just stupid. I didn't realize that 25g was the max amount of protein you could consume at one time. I was all excited because I thought being Heidi Klum's trainer meant something.
I only posted the 'details' for convenience sake...I mainly started the thread to get other ideas behind what people consider a good protein shake. I can't seem to find a shake with the qualities his has (low sugar, low in calories, high in fiber and protein - all in one product).
Most whey powders are the same, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Personally I like Optimum Nutrition. You're PP doesn't need to be high fiber, plenty of other places you can get that.

Thank you for your reply. I will look at Optimum Nutrition. I've been told about that brand before. I guess I like the fiber content because I have had - at times - a hard time getting the fiber I feel I need. I appreciate your sincerity when replying. It isn't always that way - so I've discovered on the boards here...
Wow, I just realized how overpriced that David Kirsch stuff is...that's crazy.
Yes...very pricey. But I like the flavor and that it can be mixed with water --- I've had some bad experiences with other brands (as if I have to pinch my nose while swallowing just to get it down). But because it is so pricey, that's why I wanted other opinions...THANKS.
Optimum Nutrition is around $.60 per serving, the David Kirsch stuff is around $2.50 per serving...5g of fiber is not worth it. Eat an apple, or half of an avocado, or numerous other things. EAS makes a good protein too, they are pretty much all the same, just find one that you think tastes good. I've never really had a problem mixing any powders with water...although I don't drink my shakes for the taste, I just down them quickly for the protein.
Actually this board has tons of very smart, nice, helpful people...it doesn't usually bode well though when you have very few posts and make a post like the first one in this thread...it just looks like spam.

k...got it. I didn't mean to come across that way, and I am new, as my join date indicates. Last night I tried to delete the thread but didn't see how to do that. I am just in the beginning stages of my routine - I actually start NRoL4W tomorrow, but this board was already giving me pause that I came to the wrong place.
I assumed the first post was spam. Glad to see it's not and welcome aboard.
I use a plain unflavored whey since that has pretty much no taste and I mix it with stuff that has a taste (hot chocolate, coffee, fruit & yogurt, whatever). Like you I sometimes don't get enough fiber and then I toss some wheat bran (bought in bulk at a co-op) into something I am eating.

Sorry I figured you were spamming too. I guess you aren't, so welcome aboard! I've used biotest Metabolic drive. I liked it but its pretty expensive. Currently, I'm using Nitrean. The chocolate tastes better than the vanilla imo. I think its a pretty decent good quality protein that mixes easily. Still kind of pricey but its cheaper then MD. Once again, sorry for thinking you were a spammer.

I LOVE Nitrean, too. My favorite is mixing the vanilla and the chocolate. I make mine with some frozen banana slices, a few ice cubes and some peanut butter. YUM!
Alright. You guys have me confused. I'm doing NROL just about finished with FL1. I've been using EAS Premium Protein which has 27g per serving. Take it after workout which is usually about 1.5 hrs before my late meal. I'm 6'3 about 235. Should I be doing something different? I've lost about 20lbs and am seeing results. Sorry, I'm new to working out and eating healthier.
We are being facetious, kmnutt.......the first post states that you should only have 25g of protein per meal and we are laughing at that ridiculous assertion.

Don't worry, I often times eat 60+ grams of protein in a single meal, you are doing fine. Like jane said, the original post said you shouldn't mix the protein with milk because it will take you over the max of 25g protein, which is ridiculous.

Don't change a thing. It sounds like you are doing really great. When you quit seeing results, then you may want to look at switching things up, but until then...keep doing what you're doing!
