Default Lactose intolerant!

I'm trying to get any ideas for snacks that don't involve dairy. I'm trying to get enough protein during my snacks but I can't have dairy and I'm sick of eating meat with every single meal/snack.

I know nuts are an option, which I've been including in my meals (but I hear they are not a complete protein).

fish and eggs?

You don't need to have protein with your snacks, just eat more protein with your meals.

You don't even need snacks unless you really want them.

Ms. Egham is moderately lactose intolerant, and she does just fine when she takes a lactase enzyme supplement before hand. Lactaid brand (lactose-free) milk also works for her.

That doesn't matter in a mixed diet.

depending on where you live, you should be able to find the following, i can get all these at loblaws (major chain in Canada):
- organic low-fat cheese or lactose-free cheese
- biobest yogurt that is 90% lactose free
- kashi go-lean cereal with lactose free milk
- eggs, tuna, fruit, nuts, veggies, etc..

GNC has protein powder without lactose (or with added lactase) and i think muscle milk has a pre-mixed with no lactose too.

If something like a WPC or WPI powder is causing issues, its unlikely to be due to the lactose.

Intolerance to dairy is often due to more than just the lactose. Casein and other compounds in dairy products can be a problem, that's why lactose free dairy products often aren't much better. Try hard boiled eggs, I make em by the ton.

People keep confusing intolerances & allergies.
Dairy can be problematic either because of an inability to break down the milk sugar lactose (into galactose & glucose) or because of an allergy to the proteins in dairy, which is mostly the casein fraction so sometimes whey causes less of a problem.
Be aware that if you avoid dairy all the time your body no longer will make enough lactase, so that makes you lactose intolerant over time as well.. starting back up on dairy will help.
Same thing when you never eat beans and then suddenly eat them.. farting will be your fate, unless you take digestive enzymes and/or slowly start eating more legumes.

As for snacks: my absolute favourite but expensive protein snack is beef jerkey.

My advice would be to drop dairy altogether instead of trying to sneak it in with supplements and such. I'm lactose intolerant too, so avoid it altogether and do smashingly. Check out the Paleo diet. I've never felt better. Essentially: no dairy, legumes, grains, sugar. Treat days are allowed and encouraged.

As far as non-meat snacks go: nuts (sparingly, with a high omega 3/6 ratio), fruits, vegetables. i.e. real food. It's easy. Protein wise, simple meat and eggs will make your body happy. I'm not into the powders, but they're certainly more convenient.
