Following is an email promo I got recently. I'm not promoting this. Just sharing it. It kind of goes along with something Alan said in another thread along the lines of "Eat foods you like; don't eat too little of them; don't eat too much of them; don't micromanage your diet too much." I'm basically pretty happy with my diet. It's the results I don't like.

I don't see why Perfect Pete can't be healthy fit and happy doing his program. If he didn't enjoy running and training for marathons in the first place, he wouldn't do what he does.

Anyway...

Yep, I'm happy with my diet. It's pretty flexible given that aggressive or strict dieting just doesn't seem to offer much benefit for me in terms of faster fat loss. Lately I've been pushing the limits of flexibility and have discovered I can't screw it up even if I try. I mean, if I go over calories the worst that can happen is more glycogen storage.

With regular training it's just not a big deal. I seem to maintain 225-230 whether using RFL/PSMF or gettin' nutty on a two month Holiday refeed. May have some spikes/drops but it always settles back to that 225-230 range no matter what.

I was taken with the notion of happiness (true mental and spiritual health, if you will) as well as physical health. How many diet and fitness folks are basically unhappy and how many people who are "healthy enough" but kind of do what they want are quite happy. It's all a matter of balance, IMO, and ultimately about happiness and true peace and fulfillment.

I'm pretty happy with my diet. I think a big part of that though, is telling myself that I'm not on a diet. This is just how I eat. Diet has a very negative connotation to it most of the time.

I eat things that I enjoy and it makes me feel good. I don't feel sluggish, or queasy, or guilty afterwards. That's why I enjoy it.

Chris, I understand that by 'dietarily' you just meant food/nutrition in general. 'Diet' seems to have a lot of power over some people. Sometimes it will come up in conversation and I can actually see peoples eyes glaze over as they stop paying attention.

So, how'd that program work for you? We all know you were roped in by the smooth sales pitch!!

Oh, I didn't do it. But it caught my attention. Nightingale-Conant, the publisher, puts out good stuff on a variety of personal improvement areas and stands behind their products. I own about a half dozen of their programs, and I've tried, and returned, a two or three other ones that were good, but I felt there wasn't enough value added to what I already knew. They immediately refunded my money. Very professional and high integrity.

I'm tempted to sample this one, but I only would if I felt I was really interested in it. Otherwise, I'd feel like I was scamming them if I intend to likely return it before I even buy it.

There's quite a bit of truth in it, but it's not the entire story.

Scientifically speaking, it's a fact that not eating enough of the good foods (good for YOU) and overindulging in the bad foods (overly processed, baked, fried) will shorten your lifespan and diminish health because of the carcinogens that are present.
If however you feel like having to be an overachiever in staying on 'track' both for food & training, the stress of it all, might even set you back more than someone who just eats & lifts for leisure w/o looking at macros or ever counting his/her reps.

Something I'm striving for is to to eat intuitively, while still counting every gram & calorie, so that it's possible to see differences between diet X or Y.
I'd recommend a lot of people to take a look at the book Intuitive Eating. Not everything written in there, makes sense to me, but a lot of it is useful.
The only caveat is that precisely foods that are very enjoyable can be an allergen for you or quite simply (as said above) contain too many carcinogens, so those foods should be consumed very sparingly.

I've been messing with my diet for about a year and a half now - this area is really the hardest part of my training. In that time I've done "My Own" eating plan, the Abs diet plan, and I just gave plan A of TNT a tryout. While Plan A certainly shed pounds quickly - they were pounds I DID NOT need to lose and worked counter to my goals of actually putting on weight. The Abs diet seemed to work fairly well - and "My Own" plan, well it wasn't so hot. I like the idea of intuitive eating - although that could lead me back to bad habits. I'm willing to try just about anything, and I'm fairly synched up to what my body is telling me - so the program Chris left for us may be worth a shot for me. I think prior to that I will give TNT, Plan E, a try. Plan E looks to be the perfect option for my body and my head. We shall see.

I am totally happy with my diet and it is completely changed from when I was unconsciously eating. I am now eating good whole foods and really do not avoid anything though I typically do not eat sugary things like cakes and stuff. (makes me feel poorly) I was just thinking the other day how I am going to get to eat like this forever and how that was a great thing.
