Default Worthwhile strategy?

So, if I want to lean up a bit but, at my advanced, testosterone-defficient age don't want to waste the muscle building potential of a good workout, is the following a worthwhile strategy?

Strength training 2x per week: eat at a caloric surplus for 24 hours thereafter (pretty consistently, I workout out somewhere in the 10am to 12 noon timeframe; so surplus eating from lunch through the next day's breakfast).

Other days:deficit

Seems (and feels like) a decent strategy to me.

Isn't that a rather "normal" strategy for lifting while in a deficit? I think that's how Leigh has it in OPT remix, for instance. (havent' read it yet, but it sounds like it from what other's say around here.) Energy and calories to fuel the workouts and keep the muscle, low other days to have an overall deficit to lose fat.

I could be wrong about how it is in OPTremix, but still what you describe seems to come up a lot as a decent compromise for recomp/light weight loss, without completely sucking at the workouts.

You might want to start increasing the calories of your meals before your workouts. Then the heavier meals for a few hours after the workout with a tapering off of calories until the cycle repeats.

Yeah, I knew Leigh mixes intake levels with activity in whatever way she does. I generally suck if I try to micromanage my intake too much, so I put that up as a simple strategy: more right around/after those two workouts, and a simple, consistent deficit on the other days.

I can certainly take in some extra cals at breakfast or pre-workout, or both.
