Default What's the best way to kick up the metabolism?

Hey Jp Fitness!

I'm 24, F. Sometimes my metabolism seems to slow. I eat very clean, but the meal frequency is not steady. Eating about 1100-1200 cals/day on average last week.

Should I increase cals for a few days? Cycle amt of cals? I feel good at these cals - not too full... Keep them same? Goal is fat loss. Current weight is 145-148.

Workouts are 4-5x/week 1 hr average. Mostly weights and also a bit of light cardio.

Are there any foods you eat/things you do to kick up metabolism/digestion??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Eating more will increase your metabolism. The bare minimum to get all your nutrtents is 1200, that is set by the RDA. If you eat nutrient dense food that would be a good start.

Not that I agree with the RDA, but I agree that you are not eating enough. Eat more and add volume to your workouts. Add 15-20min a workout and add more per meal.

There are a lot of reasons why your metabolism may be slow. Getting blood work would go a long way in assessing your situation.

1100-1200 calories a day with 1 hour of intense exercise? No wonder you find your metabolism to be slow. That should be probably bumped up a few hundred calories and you'd still be losing weight most likely.

I totally agree that you are not eating enough. I went through the same thing, severely underestimating my calories due to not trusting calorie counts at my school dining hall. I experimented with upping my cals and what to ya know? Weight loss! I eat 1600cals on workout days (I'm 5'3", 122lbs) and I'm losing steadily! (Though slowing since I'm close to my goal weight)
