Hmm...well I'm no expert but it certainly is about the opposite of what I believe and what I eat at night. Might have something to do with your fitness goals though too. That and I tend to not put a whole lot of weight in what the ADA says....

Does eating cottage cheese keep you awake?

I don't know the value of eating something that digests quickly. Do you want that?

Bottom line is eat whatever you want to eat if it fits with your calories and macros for the day or for your meal. It can be carbs or whatever.

I can't imagine (if you're trying to lose fat) why you'd want to eat a frigg'n BAGEL before you go to bed!

If I get hungry before bed, it's plain yogurt with berries or a tablespoon of peanut butter with a few chocolate chips. Cereal makes me hungry in the middle of the night, which is something i'm trying to avoid.

Yes to everything, and x2 to the last sentence.

I've had success with eating something slow-digesting, such as milk protein (whey + casein) or cottage cheese. We really like mixing milk protein, cottage cheese, flax meal, and nut butter together.

I've been carbing up the night before a workout day since about a year.
It's helped tremendously with falling asleep on a tryptophan -high after a low-carb day.

Lowcarbing makes you alert, precisely because of waht they write: higher tyrosine levels. Great to be alert in the infamous post lunch mid-afternoon dip.
Not so great to be fully awake after a high protein meal w/o carbs added to them. Some are more sensitive to this effect than others. I'm one of them.

So, rather than eating carbs post-workout, I'm having them a day earlier. Feels good. Performance has been good as long as I don't forget to do this.

i agree.

that said, there have been days when i drank a protein shake before bed and had trouble sleeping b/c of the high protein content from that day. So to echo what LD said, do whatever fits with your diet.
