Default String Cheese

Is string cheese good to incorporate into my diet? I am trying to eat mostly natural foods that are minimally processed. I used to love tyson chicken patties, the spicy ones, until I read a couple of nutrition books and looked at the ingredients on the box. Now I almost want to vomit when I think of how many I ate in my life. If you could post reasons as to why it is good or bad, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, should I be buying the lowfat one or regular?

Go for it. Barring any lactose issues, they should be fine. However, just like the Tyson chicken patties, go ahead and check the ingredients. There are dozens of different brands. Just make sure you don't grab one with extra additives. It shouldn't be very difficult to find a brand that doesn't have anything questionable.

As for the fat content: it all depends on your caloric guidelines. If you're trying to get bigger, getting the full-fat sticks may help you get your numbers up. If you're trying to lose, then going with the low-fat version may be helpful. Either way though, you could fit it into your diet if you want (in other words, get your cals from somewhere else if you want, or get them from your cheese sticks.).

Cheese, first ingredient should be cheese. There may be salt some other additives, but follow some general rules.
-If you cant pronounce it(and dont know what it is) ... it doesnt look good.
-HFCS never looks good.

Thats about all i can think of for now.

But think of it this way, string cheese =
protien! Calcium! some fat (to satiate and help keep up the hormone levels).

All around great snack. Throw in some almonds and youve got a very nutritionally sound and very portable snack!

The costcos in our area sell huge bags of Kraft Polly-O string cheese, which is 80 cals per stick, 6g fat, 0 carbs. And delicious. I highly recommend those.

The low-fat ones aren't much lower in calories (I think they're 70 cals per stick) and aren't nearly as good or satisfying. Better to go with the non-low-fat ones and enjoy the snack.

I'm a fan of the "Frigo Light" string cheese. 60 cals, split pretty evenly between fat (44%) and protein (56%), and no carbs. They help to balance out all the carbs in fruit that I like to eat.

I buy the kid builder string cheese from borden because it has extra vitamins and minerals added. and it's cheaper.
