Default Ground Flaxseed

So I finally found some at my grocery store, and I also found steel cuts oats as well at the same place. How long is it good for and how much do you guys use. I bought it to try in oatmeal to give it some taste. I put 1 tablespoon in, but it didn't taste any nuttier like people were describing. Also, is it possible to overcook oatmeal? FYI, I am still just using the rolled oats for right now.

I use a table spoon in my oats. Flaxseed will not add to oatmeal's taste.

I guess you can overcook it.

I don't know about steel-cuts. I get regular old-fashoined (AKA rolled) oats.

Here's my oatmeal recipe:

3 oz of your favorite berries or fruit or a mix.
1.25cp skim milk.
1/4+ cp of old-fashioned oats.

Put the fruit into a blender, add about 1/3 of the milk. Puree or blend until it's small chunks.

pour into pot.
wash out the blender with the remaining milk.
pour that in.
boil up your oats normally.

It's good stuff.

That does sound tasty. I guess I will have to buy a blender after all.

You can just chop up some fruit and cook it with the oatmeal.

I keep my flaxseed meal in the freezer. Should last virtually forever in there. If you're going through it slowly, put half in one bag and use the other half first. That way the other half doesn't get as much air exposure over time. But, at a tbsp or more a day, you'll be good.

Oats last a long, long time. Months and months if kept dry.

I buy whole flax seeds and grind them in a coffee grinder (that isn't used for coffee!) but when I used to buy it ground I kept it in the freezer. I just chop fruits and cook them with the oatmeal. You can add all sorts of things to your oatmeal My hubby wants peanut butter in his (well and raisins and walnuts). I just use ground flax, and a handful of fresh blueberries and a few drops of stevia.

When I'm being decadant I cook it in milk. It's so much creamier. But that's rare these days as I save my calories for other things.
