Buy packets next time, just bite the measuring for the 2 years it's going to last you

ha-ha...2 years is about right. Vitamin World had the bottle at a ridiculously low price, and they didn't have packets.

I buy mine by the bucket too (Stevita Stevia through betterherbs.com) and I just estimate using a regular kitchen spoon ... just a few granules on the end of the spoon. It's all about your individual taste, right? And I caution you to go slowly, sometimes it can be bitter (or have a weird taste) depending upon the brand if you use too much.

I had some and used the end of a toothpick. The packets add something in so that you have a visible measurement. I don't know if it is maltodextrin for sure or not.
I never did like the taste tho. There is sits above my stove in the cupboard. I wonder if it morphs LOL

I use KAL powdered stevia. It comes with a teeny, tiny scoop. It is a little larger than this and not as flat, of course. It doesn't take much!

I don't know about this stevia thing.....Tried different amounts...can't get the right one. I either get my coffee bitter or not sweet enough Will stick with sweet'n'low. Thanks for everyone's input though.

does it give a gm wt for that 1/32 tsp? Maybe weighing until you get the hang of it would work better. I have a small balance scale from Trueprotein that allegedly goes to 0.01g

What I did to get used to stevia was to use Splenda (or sweetener you usually use) at the same time - two sweeteners really work well together! You can use less of your usual sweetener, keep decreasing it, and strangely enough, the stevia no longer tastes bitter to me at all. Takes some time but it really works. I can now use straight stevia with no aftertaste but if my husband tastes it he'll spit it out and complain it's bitter.

Oh buy the liquid! No matter what I spent I couldn't find a powder that wasn't bitter. But the liquid? Much much better. And super easy to do by the single drop. I use the Sweet Leaf brand. They have loads of different flavors. Right now I have the vanilla creme and it's pretty good. even my super picky stevia hating husband can eat smoothies made with it and not notice!

Yes, thanks, I've been thinking about trying Stevia as an alternate to Splenda as I'd like to cut back on the artificial sweetener use. But I primarily use Splenda syrups by Torani, so I was really hoping to find something liquid, rather than a powder.
I'll do a Google on Sweet Leaf brand. No way I'll find it locally, I live in a small town.

I know this is sort of an old post, but I GREATLY prefer liquid stevia to powdered stevia. I have some powdered tabs that I keep in my purse to put in tea when I go out, but at home, it's always liquid. The only downside is it's much better kept in the fridge.
They even have them in flavors...I just had some butter toffee flavored stevia in my oatmeal

Sorry, newbie here. Why is everybody all about Stevia? What makes it better than the other sweeteners out there?

It isn't a sweetener, really, that's why a lot of people are about it. It has zero calories, but it isn't fake, like artificial sweeteners. It is actually an herb. Some people find it to be bitter, but personally, I'm a fan of it, especially in liquid form.

I use the SweetLeaf packets in coffee. I don't need a lot of sweet, so it works great for me. It's supposed to be better for you than the artificial sweetners. I tried in once in baking though, and that didn't go so well. I stick with using it in coffee.

I haven't heard of Stevia until now. I was just poting about how I don't want to give up splenda and happened to read the title of this thread. So, as I understand it, Stevia is an all natural type sweetener? How does it taste? Thanks for the helpful info.
