Default Increased calories.... bitter taste sensation?

This is a bizarre question, but I thought I'd pose it anyway.

I've upped my calories (to my theoretical maintenance, woohoo) and it is a significant jump (30-40%).

About a week after starting this I began getting a vaguely bitter taste near the back of my mouth during and immediately after eating any food. Not acidic (like reflux), not pungent or sour, but just bitter and a tiny bit metallic.

Web searches popped up "liver issues", which led me to wonder.... am I turning myself into a foie gras goose with the sudden jump in feeding?

What is your macro balance ? It seems like you're in ketosis.

Sorry, no ketosis. My typical grams daily between carb/pro is currently 200/140 - a lot more than ketosis would require.

I've gone down as low as 20g carbs daily and was NOT able to induce ketosis even then.... I'm a very efficient protein burner, I think...

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Well I'm sorry to say I have no idea what could be wrong. However, for reasons other than a weird taste in the mouth side effect, you probably should not increase your macros by 30-40% in a week. Take them back down to 250-350 calories over your previous intake level, and ramp up from there.
