Default No weight loss first week of TNT???

Just posted this in my training log and thought I'd pick a few ideas here, too...
I've been on TNT since Jan 08 with consistently good results. I've cheated a couple times with chocolate but generally this type of diet is relatively easy for me 'cos I don't care for bread, pasta, potatoes or other starches that much.
Now, my DH, who's a great foodie AND a big carb eater, joined me on TNT last week. Needless to say, he's been miserable ever since...Not only that, he's not losing any weight, either, which totally beats me! He has at least 30# to spare and I don't think he's cheating with his eats; I'd expect him to lose up to 5-7 lbs in first week (yeah, water weight, so what!) His fat intake's good...I don't get it! It's heartbreaking to see how discouraged he gets!
I'll try take him of that scale for starters and get him log all he eats which is a challenge...What do you guys think?

Maybe his overall calories are just a bit too high. It's very easy to overeat calories with such a high fat diet. I wouldn't worry about it though for the first couple weeks of TNT. He should just concentrate on following the diet and making the correct food choices. After his body adapts to low carb you guyz can probably tinker with things a little more. BTW, what is DH?

Oh thank god someone answered that one. I have been wondering all the time what DH stood for. I was guessing maybe dumb hubby or damn him or something like that....

With respect to TNT, it is the case that a lot of people would do poorly on it I suspect. I never do well on low carb diets. I just need my carbs and am miserable if I try. In fact I don't like the premise of any diet that advocates cutting back one macro really far.

You are describing me on a low carb diet. I am like your DH and his love of carbs. But I do terribly on low carb even after weeks. I hardly budge weightloss wise then give up!

One thing that hits me tho is could he be UNDER eating? Since he is so used to using up cals with carbs?

Count me in as another who fails miserably on low carb diets. No problem cutting out bread pasta or rice, but take my oats away from me and I'll chew yer hand off. My hubby does great on low carb when he can stick to it but I'm miserable, both mentally and physically. I can go as low as about 30% but that's about it. I lost 45# at about 50% carbs, so it can be done.

My guess is he's sneaking in something you don't know about. OR, maybe his fats are a bit low? Try to post EXACTLY what a day of his eating is, if you can.

I don't lose on TNT unless I make a conscious effort to eat less than I would like.

At the beginning, it took a week of trying to eat less, then I sort of adjusted to it. That kept me going for a long, long time. But, now, I really have to look at my food and know that I need to eat a little less than that satisfying looking plate of food.

One problem is that people make or dish up the amount of food that they think they will eat. Then, they eat it. Many of us fail to leave food on the plate when we are "satisfied, but not full." I think that's the TNT guideline, right?

Adam has frequently made the point that people need to determine what their optimum carb intake is. Actually Atkins and South Beach do too. Because carb control tends to be critical for weight loss you might check out some of the information on timing of when to eat carbs. Some people do better eating carbs in the morning, and in a window before and after exercise. Others need to avoid morning carbs.

I've got to second this. I was doing TNT and really wasn't seeing much difference on the scale, pics, or measurements. I ended up switching to guidelines more like the Metabolism Advantage plan and have progressed well since then. I think that you really have to just dial in to what your body best responds to and then stick with it. I average between 150-200 carbs and feel great, my workouts have been great, and I've lost about 10 pounds since switching.

Thanks to all for the great pointers!
As I've said, it's a challenge to get a full daily calorie breakdown but I'll see what I can do... Little hidden cameras or something...Satellite tracking device...Ain't marriage fun!
