Default Timing of foods

Does it really matter if you eat fats, carbs and protein together in a meal besides breakfast. I've had a trainer tell me that this should only be done the first meal of the day. It's now 4:15 and I just had low-carb wheat toast (9g carbs with 15g of protein in 2 slices) with natural peanut butter and a protein shake. Is this really bad? I eat very clean, but does timing really matter that much? Thanks.

The differences between eating relatively balanced at each meal vs P+C and P+F are relatively trivial. Especially if you're trying to lose weight and in a caloric deficit.

It can help you be aware of how much you eat. In TNT, for instance, you eat P+F almost all the time. When you are allowed carbs, you are encouraged to cut out extra fat. But, it's more to limit your calories that because of the mixture. If you just ate P+F, plus added in the carbs that you've been limiting all week, you'd likely be eating too much at that meal. It's not perfect, but it helps.

At the end of the day, I'm usually around 1800 cals or so and usually don't mix all 3 together in the evenings, maybe just in the am or early afternoon and then it's protein, veggies and a source of fat (almonds, PP, ect), the last 2 meals of the day.
