Cutting Phase help needed?
Hi guys,
I am starting a cutting phase soon and was wondering what carbs and protein sources you guys prefer when cutting?
For carbs i was gonna use oats, brown rice plus veg with every meal, and for protein i was gonna use chicken, steak and protein shakes.I would be interrested to know what you good people use.
Also what are your views on fruit while cutting many say dont however would like to have a piece of fruit in the morning at breakfast.
Anyway any advice would be great thanks

Whole grains, vegetables and fruit for carbs: oatmeal, cherries, spinach, romaine, etc.
Protein: steak, pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin, boneless skinless chicken breast, chicken breast tenderloins, turkey breast, fillet mignon, t-bone, etc.
Have the fruit in the morning. Probably the best time to have it! In fact, have berries or fruit IN your oatmeal and you're killing two birds...

If you're allowing yourself grains, then certainly don't worry about fruit. In the hierarchy of foods to eat when dieting, fruit is better.
Eat healthy, whole foods in any combination that you like, as long as you eat little enough to lose weight.

Question on this, and not to nitpick, but isnt fillet mignon high in fat? I always thought it wasnt because its supposed to be a good cut, but then heard it actually contains alot of fat, and to go with top sirloin instead...I could be wrong, which is why Im asking.

1) no reason to avoid fat just because it is fat
2) 3 oz cooked tenderloin = 152 calories, 5.59g fat, 23.9g protein
3 oz cooked top sirloin = 150 calories, 4.28g fat, 26.2g protein
these compare 'select' grade '0" trim fat' specifications

No I understand about the fat thing, but Ive read (here or another board), that fillet mignon was high in saturated fat. If this is wrong, Im going to eat me a fillet this weekend

per 1 oz - for filet: 2.8g fat, 1.1g sat, 1.1g MUFA, 0.1g PUFA (no I don't know how that adds up (rounding I guess) but that's what the breakdown says )
per 1 oz - for sirloin: 2.5g fat, 1.0g sat, 1.0g MUFA, 0.1g PUFA
(same select grade 0" trim)
check Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com if you really want to see the FA profiles of your foods.
cf
roasted chicken breast, meat only - 1oz = 1g fat, 0.3g sat, 0.3g MUFA, 0.2g PUFA

Generally more fat makes a better or more expensive cut (internal fat or marbling, not fat on the edges which can be trimmed anyway). Fillet mignon is pretty low fat for the cuts that are eaten as steak but since it comes from a non-weight-bearing muscle it is very tender.

All beef will have saturated fat. It's usually somewhere around 30%. 30% of the fat that's in whatever beef cut you eat. As far as I can tell, no cuts have higher or lower percentages of saturated fat.

Can't tell ya. That last time I had it was at Bob Chin's and they wrapped it in bacon...yumm!
Otherwise, it's too expensive for me. Same with t-bones and new yorks.

Yeah, I ate a fillet back a little bit ago wrapped with bacon...this is probably my fav steak. Usually I get top sirloin, but I think I will do the fillet again next time I eat steak
Oh, and thanks for info everyone else..

"Also what are your views on fruit while cutting many say dont however would like to have a piece of fruit in the morning at breakfast."
This is popular bb dogma do not eat fruit when getting cut
Fact: you can get cut while eating fruit or any other food assuming you are in cal deficit.
If you have allergies or intolerances to certain fruit then you would probably want to avoid. (I cover this topic in-depth in Knowledge and Nonsense: the science of nutrition and exercise

I have a problem when eating honeydew. It causes me to have diarrhea
