Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
Nothing groundbreaking here, but I figured we're all looking for new ways to eat right and keep it healthy, so...
Last night I tried this, and it worked great!
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup plain, non-fat yogurt
20g plain, unflavored whey protein
3 shakes of cinnamon
2 shakes of nutmeg
1 shake of ginger
1 teaspoon of Splenda
small handful of roasted, salted almonds
Stir it up.
Sounds good except for the splenda. "chloronated hydrocarbons" seem harmless but I've read otherwise the safest sugar alternitive is Stevia made from root of a plant. Oh I've also read tha splenda raises your blood sugar so its kinda pointless. Stevia wont.

Well, Splenda has about 13% the calories of sugar, so right there it's valuable. It's also been tested over several months on type-2 diabetics with no harmful effects, so I doubt that it's messing much with a normal person's blood sugar. (This info can be found in J.Hale's 'Knowledge & Nonesense', if you're curious.)
As stated in my last post in Coach Hales thread, the studies on splenda are funded by the splenda comapany and breach serious conflict of interest. Take a look at the actual complaints made from splenda users and you will see a very different sweetner. I can tell you that there are quite a few stories known of diabetics that used splenda and had adversely high blood sugar as a result. The reactions outside of raised blood sugar seem to be a bit different than its former chemical sweetner. Such as
Reduced growth in infants, decreased red bloo cells, shrunken thymus, decreased thyroxine levels (thyroid function), mineral losses, Decreased urination, enlarged colon, enlarged liver and brain in .3% however, abnormal liver cells. These were side effects recieved from mice and rat studies. In human studies the woman children and the elderly seem to be the most succeptable to side effects. that effect skin, lungs head, nose, eyes, stomach, heart, joints, neurological, and others. This is why studies avoid testing subjects other then middle age healthy male adults. They are the least sensitive by far. Which is the majority of you. So if you feel content with a chemical rather then Stevia which has been used in japan for over 30 years with no reported side effects. Its your decision I've read plenty on the subject. Its just smarter to go with the sugar or stevia, besides the fact sugar is useful for a afterwork in restoring glycic stores in the muscles.
1 tbs of splenda is really nothing. Have you been on a 'low-carb' forum before? Some people are eating cups of the stuff per day. Not saying this is good (infact, im anti artificial sweeteners for many reasons) just that 1tbs is nothing. Mind you, in most whey they have some, and now in most yogurts they seem to as well (maybe not plain).
That sounds pretty good ian.. its a fancy version of what once was a staple in my diet:
1+ cup of plain yogurt
80g of vanilla protein
-eat with a big spoon because its disgusting and clumpy lol.

Pumpkin Almond Pudding! Really damn good!
Sounds good. I love pumpkin.
Here's mine. I accidentally bought low fat cottage cheese (disgusting) and had to get creative to use it up.
You need a blender or food processor for this one.
I've done the chocolate-cottage cheese thing before as well. If you start off with some crushed ice, it makes a pretty good ice-creamish kinda thing.
I've decided that Splenda is one of my acceptable vices along with too much coffee. I don't know if I buy into studies done on diabetics. They probably had them on some stupid high carb diet. "Okay, you're a diabetic, so you need to eat 80% of your foods from the grains category and make half your grains whole."
