Default Coach Hale's "Knowledge and Nonsense"

While I haven't finished it yet, I figured I'd do a miniature review of it here. I'm not trying to compete with Gobbla's Guides, seeing as how I don't have the inclination or time for a review of that quality.

Anyway, there is quite a bit of great information in this book, and it's presented in a very easily-navigated format. There are no BS concepts or "guessing"... everything is study-based. This is the kind of stuff you should know in order to base your lifestyle on, while avoiding the tug-of-war of the hundreds of crappy "programs" and "nutritional discoveries" that are out there.

If provides a nice, short review of nearly every nutritional program out there (South Beach to the Velocity Diet, etc.) and explains how and why the concepts of each one do or do not make sense.

It also addresses a ton of common nutritional myths and supports or debunks them.

Near the beginning it gives a good overview of the "basics" of nutrition, and may give people a different view of how the body treats food.

A few negatives: the grammar and spelling errors (one every page or two). While the information itself is good, and the chapters are on interesting subjects, I wish that it had been edited and/or rewritten by someone else. No offense to Coach Hale, but poor paragraph structure and spelling errors can be very distracting. (I'm not saying that this post is any better!) Some of the information could have been rearranged to allow for a more fluid read, and some passages seem like last-minute additions which aren't quite fleshed out.

That said, I'm still getting a lot from this book, and I'd still recommend it to pretty much anybody. While some of the lingo is over my head, the essence of the information is easily understood. I'll be using this as a handy reference for years to come.

I'd give it an A- (the minus for the spelling and grammar )

Thanks for the review

I did have the book edited (paid editor)

I also had three of my colleagues review the book and i personally read over it 4 times. Maybe that wasn't enough.

Sorry for the errors

thanks,
Coach Hale

No worries, Coach. I like it a lot and it was definitely worth the $$$. Sorry if I sounded too negative about it. After all, I still gave it an A-!
