I ordered the CDMI protein in the following premium flavors: vanilla, strawberry, and orange creamcicle.
The protein mixes up pretty good in a shaker cup. Much better than the MPI I had purchased a while back....that stuff would leave this weirdo clumpy gel protein puffs in my shakes. Anyways, all the flavors have a chalky taste to them, which I guess is to be expected. The vanilla is decent, but the strawberry and orange taste ridiculous. I was planning on using them in my PWO shakes with plain oatmeal...but it tastes kind of rough and reminds me of pepto bismol. So I've been using the vanilla for my PWO instead which isn't as bad. I have started using the strawberry in my milk'n'berry smoothies and it is good that way. And the orange is really good with 8oz of milk and 8oz of orange juice mixed in.
This protein blend does not work with my morning oatmeal. I mix the protein powder and dry oatmeal together in a bowl and then pour boiling water and some frozen berries in and mix it all up. I have done this twice with this blend and both times it turned into this really gummy nasty mess. In fact, I had to throw the spoon away because after running it through a couple cycles in the dishwasher...it still had a hardened gummy cast on it. Crazy stuff!! I'm sticking with what Nitrean I have left for my morning power oatmeal.

Has anybody hear tried optimum nutritions 100% gold standard whey and TP whey? I am trying to choose between the two. If I go with TP whey, i would get the whey isolate cold filtered. But, I don't know if it is beneficial to get only one type of whey because most premixed solutions come with isolates and concentrate. Also, what do you guys do, just order plain whey, and order the flavor packs on the side to add to it?

I got my order of Whey Concentrate from True Protein, but I can't find information about how much liquid to mix with it. Is it 1 scoop+8 oz or some other amount?
Thanks!

i've tried both. I used ON for years, and switch to TP because of the variation of flavors that ON doesn't have.
In terms of mixing isolate and concentrate, i would just get one or the other. I don't think it really matters. Isolate cold filtered tastes better (to me), than concentrate, but i've used concentrate for years as well.
I've done both in terms of ordering the plain and adding flavor myself, or having them flavor it. Adding the flavor yourself gives you more variation, so you don't have bags of protein laying around.
It all comes down to your own personal preference.

i would say 1/8oz is about right. I've done 2 scoops with 12-16oz. It really depends on how strong you like your shakes. Add less water, and taste it, and if it's too strong, add some more.

i personally don't know about this. It sounds good, but i don't know what it will taste like. Supposedly this stuff has been refined more than just grinding oats in a grinder, so it dissolves better. I'll probably order a pound or two w/ my next order just to see how it is.
I don't think it really matters what carb source you put in your PWO though, i think it just comes down to personal preference. 6-7 bucks seems a bit steep for a carb source, when waxy or sugar is cheaper.

Something else I hadn't heard about! I tell you what; I'm learning so much on this forum. I'm going to have to try some of this Trueprotein. It's just amazing how eating protein keeps your appetite at bay. If I eat eggs for breakfast, I'm not hungry again until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. In contrast, if I eat an english muffin, I end up scarfing something esle down in an hour. I'm excited to hear about a protein supplement because I'm not always in the mood to eat the stuff that's full of protein. This is perfect for me!

Sorry for the delayed response. They tasted ridiculously bad. Too much of an artificial sweetener taste. Like I said though, they taste really good if mixed with milk...but with water....yuck.

I have been thinking about ordering a custom pwo mix again from TP but am sorta confused about wich ratios of carbs:protien and which type of carb source. Most premade mixes like Surge have both dextrose and maltodextrose in it.....but I the last batch I ordered tasted kinda bitter because of the Maltodextrose. Do most people just use dextrose as the only carb source or a mix of different types better?
I use to use Surge(loved the taste) quite often, but it's fairly expensive. And I usually start sipping on it halfway through my workout, finishing it when I'm done lifting....so I guess tasting good is a plus for me.
Any suggestions on mix ratios or types?

dextrose is sweeter so if malto wasn't sweet enough i'd go with dextrose.
you might think of trying something like this?
True Protein | High Quality Nutrition and Protein Supplements
looks like it has some of each. If you want it sweeter, just go to custom, and up the dextrose and lower the malto. At least now you have a good jumping off point on where to go.
Hope this helps!

thanks alco. And yeah I was looking at their premade mix that you posted. It looks pretty good and basically what I custom ordered last time. I'll probably go that route again. I just didn't know if other people had a custom mixes that they liked.....just lookin at options.
Now I guess I have to decide on a flavor!

As soon as I am done this bag of ON Vanilla Whey I was thinking of getting the sample pack to test out the flavours. I had a question about a custom mix though, I considered getting a mix of 50% Whey Protein Isolate Cold-Filtration and 50% Casein but I didn't know which kind to get or if it mattered. Micellar Casein or Hydrolyzed Casein and secondly of anyone else has made a mix like that how did it turn out?

i found this:

Hydrolyzed Casein is a great product, but again like many of our other hydrolyzed proteins, this product is extremely bitter. When custom mixing your own blends, keep Hydrolyzed Casein below 25% for a good tasting product. We recommend you order your Hydrolyzed Casein separate to see how much the bitterness
effects you.

Micellar Casein possesses a bland taste, but with all casein type proteins, they do possess a somewhat chalky mouth feel. Casein type proteins in general also have a much thicker consistancy than a whey might have, so mixing quantities should be less. Micellar Casein is an instantized protein so it can easily be mixed in a shaker cup or blender.
|
i would go with micellar if i were you, and had to choose between the 2. Casein is going to be chalky though, so know that going into it!
my friend gave me some casein ON protein to try, and it made the shakes really thick. I haven't tried TPs though. I've heard that ON isn't as pure casein as TPs or something to that effect, but i don't know how valid that is considering it came from the source of TP...
