i tried the reg chocolate kind with the other flavoring and it was pretty good. I wasn't a big fan of the fudge, but the orange cream is AWESOME.

I've got a while to go before I'm ready to order (I got a good supply of ON), but I'm curious:

any need for a sweetner?
What about Aminogen? I know ON likes to cite that out as a major feature of its whey, but does it add value?

the flavorings that are sold separately include sweetener.

I tried the plain, unflavored, unsweetened once - I wouldn't do that again.

I have some LorAnn flavorings that are not sweetened - I use them in vanilla-flavored whey (amongst other things). I forgot that little fact (that they are unsweetened) once and made a flavored shake with the unflavored, unsweetened whey. I wouldn't do that again either.

Here's the thing...

I intend to use honey as one carb source, and that is pretty sweet. I'm wondering if having splenda added, then piling honey on top of it might be overkill.

Orange and honey or vanilla and honey ought to go well together. I'm not sure what else would work with honey though. I'm drawing off past experiences with mixtures in other concoctions.

However, if the orange already includes the sweetner, then it's a no-brainer.

Still not sure if I want to go low-carb again. I like my oatmeal and fruit.

I'm not sure if you can get the separate powdered flavorings w/out sweetener

but you might be able to get flavored protein powder w/out sweetener - it is two separate pull-down choices when you order - which implies they blend what you request.

Not yet, but RedWifey did. She liked it. I'm gonna try it tomorrow, probably.

i wouldn't get it unsweetened but flavored. The best approach is getting plain whey, and then getting the flavor separately. I've ordered some unsweetened but flavored, and it's hard to get it sweet enough. On top of that, if you want to have the shakes other times than pwo, then you're going to have a hard time getting it sweet enough.

If i were you, i'd get a batch of unsweetened, unflavored WPC. Then, get the flavors separately. You could get waxy as a carb source. It's OK, but not great, and isn't sweetened. Or, you could just add oats to your shake.

If i was going to go the honey route, i would just take a spoon or two of honey, and then drink the shake.

I might buy 2-3 tubs of different flavors if it's a PITA mixing in good proportions to make it palatable.

I'm not sure at this point. I've got a ton of ON whey that I'm only having occasionally as a protein boost to the day, rather than a PWO drink, so I have plenty of time to consider how to approach it.

the flavor comes separately and you mix them yourself. the flavor is already sweetened, so all you need to add to the unflavored is flavor, and it becomes sweet enough. You just need to add the amount of flavor that you desire.

I've ordered some that were flavored, but not sweetened. that's a pain in the ass, because it's hard to get it sweet, but it still has the flavor.

Cake batter, maybe.

I certainly hope they can pull off Cookies & Cream. That would rock!

i dunno. the cookies and creme from other companies has been unsatisfying. Muscle milk's blueberry protein was delicious. I had their green apple before, and it was ok.

peaches and creme would be delicious as well. mmmmmm.....

Just made a big purchase:

1) 5 lbs. of PWO custom mix (Whey concentrate with a little isolate thrown in, plus dextrose and maltodextrin, small big of glutamine and BCAA mix). Unsweetened and orange creamsicle flavor.

2) 5 more lbs. of same mix but Strawberry-Banana flavor.

The ratios are closer to 1:1 on carbs:protein than the normal 2:1 or even 3:1, but this fits better with RedWifey's TNT plan. And it leaves us room to sweeten it further if necessary.

Thanks for the discount code, Alcky.

OMG that cake batter would have hit the spot last night. I was craving cookie dough ice cream (and I don't even really like ice cream that much - weird) so we made the PB & chocolate protein bars from NROL (SO good) and tossed little bits of that "batter" into a vanilla protein smoothie. It wasn't the same, but it was still pretty damn tasty.

We ordered the flavor packet sampler today - can't wait! (except for all the banana ones - I am with Cynic on that one.)

Banana is EXCELLENT. if you don't like banana then if probably sucks, but it's by far the most "natural" tasting banana protein i've tried.

Two things so far:

1) I should have ordered it pre-sweetened (either sugar, sucralose or aspartame). Not a real biggie since I can do it myself with each serving, but it would have been more convenient pre-sweetened. The taste is totally different than the flavor sample packs without sweetener.

2) I ordered two plastic jugs with scoops, but they sent the protein in bags. RedWifey called them and they're sending us the stuff now.

Still a good buy, IMO.

when you say pre-sweetened, so you mean just with a sweetener in it and not a flavor? I've never done it that way. I would think that you would use less of the flavor that way.

Those food bags are ridiculously thick, aren't they? I generally just use some old ON protein containers. It's good to see that they're correcting it.

I mean sweetener and flavor. What I tasted yesterday is nothing like the sample packs. I know the dextrose and malto changes it a bit, but I have to assume that the flavor packs were sweetened.

When you order the "flavorings" separately they are actually sweetener and flavoring (though you don't get to choose sweetener type and I don't know what they default to)
so I assumed the sample packs were flavor + sweetener as well

Thanks, I didn't realize that when I placed my big order. I can still sweeten it myself, but will let them do it next time.

yea, i ordered unflavored, and then ordered the flavors separately. The flavors are sweetened already with i think aspartame or splenda. So, there's really no need to sweeten it when you do it like this. But i think when you order just the flavor, it's not sweetened.

so, lefty, you just ordered the protein+flavor and unsweetened? I think i understand it, right?

Bingo. Since I made my own custom mix, the sweetener was one step of the process and I just left it blank. Next time I'll probably do sucralose (Splenda).

i actually did this once with a green apple flavor that they used to have. I agree with you that if you get it flavored already, then you need sweetener added to it. I think probably the only good thing getting it unsweetened is if you use it for pwo mixes and add dextrose or malto to it.

It's kinda messed up. I remember when i was ordering the flavors separately, i had to go on the TP boards and ask them if the flavors were sweetened or not, because it doesn't specify.

That was my exact problem -- my mixes were for PWO and had some dextrose and malto. So I thought that might sweeten it enough. Nope.

It would've been nice to know if/how the sample flavor packs were sweetened, so that we could recreate that taste with our own mixes.

Apparently, they say it's a better deal to buy it pre-flavored tan to buy the flavor separately.

yea, but when you buy pre flavored, you don't have the convenience of changing a bunch of different flavors.
