Default 3,000 calories in one meal?

When heading out to dinner at a chain Italian restaurant,
whether for a celebration or just another Tuesday night, you
expect to splurge a little bit. But you probably don't realize
just how indulgent the meal can be--on the order of 3,000
calories and several days' worth of saturated fat for an
appetizer, entrée and dessert.

We studied nutritional information from Olive Garden and
Romano's Macaroni Grill--the two largest sit-down Italian chains
in the U.S., and report the heart-clogging results in the
November issue of Nutrition Action Healthletter. For more
information, watch our video featuring some of the most
egregious offerings, such as Macaroni Grill's Spaghetti and
Meatballs with meat sauce, which boasts a whopping 2,430
calories and 57 grams of saturated fat.

The video, press release and the full Nutrition Action
Healthletter article are available online at
A 3,000-Calorie Dinner? Belly-ssimo! ~ Newsroom ~ News from CSPI.

Interesting, but whenever I see "Center for Science in the Public Interest" is involved I tend to dismiss it. Food facist in my opinion.

So a marathon burns about 2800 calories? Fuck that.

I like CSPI just because they let me know the calorie content of stuff Id like to get. And while Im not super anal about things, 60g of saturated fat is kinda fucked. Good thing I dont like spaghetti with meatballs

I don't LIVE by what they put out but most of what I've seen has been pretty good info and not all that controversial. It just is what it is. They just try to make it known to the folks who only hear the advertisements from the people selling it to balance the picture. In my opinion, these are far and away NOT the folks who choose to get 3,000 in a meal and know that they can put it good use but, rather, the ones who just keep eating and not doing much to put it to use outside of adding more insulation for the winter.

Yeah obesity is not our fault at all, its carbs and addiction...

Seriously though in my first meet with a client I go over what I call my three calorie shockers...

-A popular restaurant meal (usually TGIF or Olive Garden) 2000+ Calories
-A Tootsie Roll - 25 calories a piece
-A Margarita or LIT- 500+ calories

Creates a reality check for most.

When I go out for dinner, I usually eat whatever I want. It's an indulgence! One 2,500 calorie plate of pasta won't kill you. And don't forget about dessert!
