Default Staying up late means eating more?

I posted this at the MH forum where I post more and most people said that I should eat more as I am awake longer and I need the energy (which is what I have been doing) but I am curious as to what some of you guys think as well.

I am just curious as to what you guys think about this. When it comes down to finals, regardless of how well I am prepared, sometimes I stay up all night.

When I do this should I eat the same amount of calories? more? less?

If you want to do well on your finals, then eat up.

I'd say if you want to do well on finals, don't stay up all night! Learn more efficient and effective study habits. I know that wasn't your question, but 8 hours sleep per night will help more on mental (and physical fitness) performance than staying up all night and eating more (or less).

Though gobbla's likely correct - after all, you're only talking about a few nights out of your whole life - I think that if you're up, then you eat. Stay low on carbs, maybe?

When I had to work 60-70 hours in a week without much sleep, calorie-dense food (carbs mainly) and lots o' coffee kept me going.

Agreed. When I pull 20-hour days, I find myself eating more, but then, I'm eating when I'd otherwise be sleeping (read: fasting), so as long as it's not total junk all the time, you're just fueling your body for its extra waking hours. No harm, no foul (except when Taco Bell is the only thing open).

Study more prior to finals, to limit the amount of cramming you'll need.

(Of course, this is not the approach I took in school.)
