Suggestions on my travel foods
So during the week I live 4 days at my home in one part of the state, 3 days at my aunt's house in another (grad school sucks). When I travel between the two I bring a cooler of food that should hold me over for the 3 days. I try to keep it as simple as possible so there's not much prep time and I can eat on the go. I try to keep it to simple meal replacements with a couple of different shakes, with a couple of shaker bottles full of each. My two main drinks are:
Proteins/Fats:
-basically any chocolate/peanut butter combo (chocolate whey, peanut butter, cottage cheese, milk)
and Non-Starch Carbs:
-any fruits/veggies laying around with some sugar-free strawberry jell-o:
(strawberries, bananas, spinach, broccoli, green beans, flax)
Non-Shake Foods are mostly:
-a pack of deli turkey or chicken
-a few pieces of light whole wheat bread
-a few sticks of low-fat string cheese
-bag of almonds/walnuts/pumpkin seeds/raisins/whatever
- couple green tea bags
I also keep a couple small shaker bottles full of 30g of protein (just add water) in case I'm in a pinch.
This is all so I don't have to spend money at the convenience store during my breaks at school. When I get back to my aunt's house, I eat 2-3 egg omelets with turkey or chicken for dinner. I figure it could be a lot better but this is the quickest and easiest I've thought of so far.
It's worked well for the last few weeks, give or take a couple slacker days. Does anybody have ideas on how to improve this basic on-the-road eating plan? I'm sure people have had to travel like this at some point.
