Default NutriSystem

My mother-in-law has decided to start using NutriSystem. I believe she placed an order with them yesterday.

I'm glad that she has found the motivation to start something, as her weight is something that has troubled her for a while (from what I've been told).

In no way do I plan on getting involved with this. I do well to get myself through the day . But I'm curious what others think about the system and it's positive or negative effects. Anyone here that has used it before?

Judging only by the commercials I've seen, it seems to be oriented around low-fat and calorie restriction. I think it's 3 meals a day, a snack, and a dessert. None of which look to be over 300 calories.

I know some people who have had some decent results with it but unfortunately they weren't able to keep it up long-term. Yes, it's based on calorie restriction.

I have a few problems with the philosophy behind it: "Don't think about what you eat, just buy our plan and we'll do the thinking for you."

I really don't think that's an effective method for long-term change. Eventually people will have to stop buying those outrageously overpriced Nutri-System meals and cook for themselves. It seems to set them up for failure if they don't buy the meals any more.

That said, though, I wish your mother-in-law the best. I hope it works for her and it serves as a step in the right direction.
