Default Phosporic Acid in carbonated drinks: evil

[quote]http://diabetesupdate.blogspot.com/

Coke Adds Death?
A disturbing little study published recently in the journal, Epidemiology, received no coverage at all by the media. It found that drinking as little as two "cola drinks" a day could double the risk of "chronic kidney disease." [quote]

Good news, drinks which get their kick from citric acid are probably OK

ITs funny that she complains that media never picked it up.

Probably because case control trials are just one step above anecdotal evidence (or the medical equiv) on the scale of research goodness.

tis also interesting to note that artificially sweetened soda did not have a significant association, where as normally sweetened did. Even though both have the same acids.

But even better, the subjects were on average 63 years old. They were questioned on their beverage intake since htey were 18 years old. They then used this lovely data to construct their comparison. On average, they had to recall their drink intake for 45 years ago and onwards for soda.

Stupid case control garbage

Trying to beat the PR department at Coca Cola is an unsurmountable feat.

I had a friend on dialysis some years ago. Even back then, cola was absolutely forbidden for him and nearly anyone with limited kidney fuction. Phosphorus is especially hard on the kidneys.

Funny thing is, the phosphorus is an added ingredient. It adds an edge to the cola taste that focus groups prefer, so none of the cola manufacturers have ever considered changing it.
