Grits
Would grits be considered a good clean source of carbs? I have some left over talipa from last night with a awesome fish sauce on it that goes great with rice. I was thinking about trying it with grits this morning and having fish and grits for breakfast this morning.

probably not, they don't really have any fiber, ect. But having them for breakfast one time won't kill you....

Oh, I wish it were true considering how much I LOVE grits (a tad Southern here)! However, with grits being highly-processed leftovers from corn, MAYBE it'd be decent post-workout, but c'mon, it's a breakfast food. As PA said, once in a blue moon won't hurt. Besides, if you eat them the right way (with cheddar, jumbo shrimp, sausage balls, bacon bits, and Old Bay seasoning), I don't think there's a "good" place for them in any diet. Not that that stops me from indulging on occasion

You can do anything once or twice, or you can run an experiment and replace your other carbs with it and let us know what happened

I would put it in the same category...refined carbs with minimal fiber. Won't kill you, but they are better choices.

I see nothing wrong with grits
100cals per cup.. thats going to take a hell of a lot to really overdue your daily cals.

Yeah, but those 100 cals are empty and are just refined carbs, as compared to an apple, which is 100 cals filled with fiber, vitamins and micronutrients.
Another thing to consider is if the food is going to satisfy you. Because Grits are refined and have no fiber, the average person will be hungry an hour later and prone to eat more later on in the day. A person eating a higher fiber/fast breakfast will probably have less of an appetite and will eat less later on.
I don't know if this make sense, but this is the way I see it.

"Frank" eats like a million calories a day, more when he's not cutting. He sprinkles 100 calories worth of grits on his food like we would use pepper.

If grits are on the menu, I doubt anyone's worried about C+F meals Best quickie breakfast in the world: 3 fried eggs, a big scoop or two of cheddar grits, and a couple thick slices of livermush (which, being held together by cornmeal, doesn't make for healthy eating, either, but again, who cares at that point?)

If you're ever this way go to the Atlanta Fish Market and try the cashew encrusted swordfish served on a bed of cheese grits. Wow. Just wow.
Definitely post-workout though.

Wow...grits I grew up on those! Grits with 2 over-easy eggs, crumbled bacon and lots of butter/salt/pepper in them...that's breakfast. Or, for dinner, fried catfish and grits with melted cheese in them. So good.... Grits, how I miss thee...
