Id like to see the male who couldn't go from 12-9% bf while eating fruit.. and how on earth could you specifically blame fruit, I have no idea.. training program, rest, recovery, and general diet are going to be 100x more important then a few fruits.
ALL controlled research is in favor of a higher fruit intake (versus a low one) for improving body composition. Every last bit of it. Everyone ignores this research, or simply doesn't know about it. And then there's the sea of data showing the other health benefits of fruit. Fruits are nutrient-dense/calorie-sparse. They're one of the best possible foods to structure into a hypocaloric diet that doesn't involve attempts at carb elimination.
Another thing - YES fruit contributes to muscle glycogen resynthesis, since fruit typically has 50% of its sugar coming from glucose (Roland, don't forget that sucrose is 50% glucose).
Another thing - for those worried about fructose overdosing, realize the average fruit has about 8g fructose. Not that some fructose in the diet is a bad thing in the 1st place, esp from the standpoint of hepatic glycogen status & LBM preservation.
Another thing - fruit is one of the best possible foods to use in carb restriction because the servings are already pre-done, making it easy & convenient for the dieter.
I don't see what the issue is unless you specifically eat a bathtub of fruit for your binging problem.
