Favorite "Cheap" Protein Powder
The time has come once again for me to bulk up my protein powder cabinet. I had used ON 100% Whey for what seems like an eternity and then I switched to trueprotein.com's Milk Protein Isolate back in February. I was going to reorder some ON Whey again but they raised their price $10 per 10lbs bag and so it might be time to look for something else. I was just curious what everyone is using right now and what is the best buy for the money?

Whats your favorite ON flavor? I was thinking about trying rocky road this time because I usually order vanilla.

I find trueprotien pretty cheap? I love their micellar casein. I'm not sure of the American price, but its around $11/lb in Canada I think, thats not to bad imo.
I have some ON vanilla and chocolate kicking around but they are hardly used for me.

I generally will order vanilla becuase I almost always mix it with Gatorade or Crystal Light. The only protein I've found that I can mix in water and just drink is muscle milk, which has too much other stuff in it, and Metabolic Drive from T-Nation.

Depends on what your definition of too much is.... you can get pretty good deals on most major manufacturers from vitaglo, dpsnutrition, completesupplements... or do a froogle search for what you want to order and take it from there.

I should say first, I don't buy Crystal Light. Walmart has their brand that's like half as much. They have fruit punch, strawberry, grape and this orange juice-looking stuff. Tastes pretty good and it's sugar-free. Artificial sweetner, which may or may not be very good for you, but it's not bad.

I still think ON is a good buy. I don't get 10lb bags, but the last time I bought a 5lb bottle it wasn't higher. This was a couple of weeks ago so it may have changed. But you might look into that.

I get Cytosport's Pure Whey (whey whatever and whey hydrolysate).
1854g of P for $29 at my local store.
Like Blackjack, I only buy vanilla, so I can cook with it and mix it with other things.

I think the soy protein shakes taste the best. I haven't tried a variety of flavours though...

You're asking the wrong guy. I just chug it down. I see no need to taste my protein powders. As long as they aren't terrible, I'm good.
I think it tastes pretty good on it's own. Hydrolysate has an unusual taste though. It's bitter, I guess. But the amount in this is small, I think.
However, I think ON Vanilla tastes bad. But, in a shake with other ingredients, they all taste the same to me. ON, Cytosport, etc. Whatever I have is fine.
I've never really had any protein powder mix alright with water. You always need a shaker.

Thats the truth. The MPI that I'm currently using you can't even mix with water in a shaker or it turns out like weird lumps gelatin. I have to mix it in the blender.

I buy what ever I decide is cheapest this week.
As long as it's some type of Whey protein without a tonne of carbs I am usually a pretty happy camper.

Sams was carrying the Cytosport Whey for while here in Rochester, and both the vanilla and chocolate were good. 5 lb jug for $18 wasn't bad either!
I see that a lot of people buy ON whey. It's all I bought a few years ago, but soon found that it was probably the worst tasting of all, especially vanilla. Maybe it was just the fact that I used it for so long and got sick of it....
I should be buying PP online, but I've been lazy lately and just buy the 2-2.5 lb jugs at Walmart for $11. Six Star vanilla isn't bad, I'm going to try EAS next.
