Starbucks going to reduced-fat milk
I still strongly dislike Starbucks' coffee, but for those of you who don't:
Quote:
Starbucks moving to reduced-fat milk
Consumer trend is behind shift from whole in espressos
Starbucks Corp. said Thursday it will replace whole milk with 2 percent for espresso drinks in all of its U.S. and Canadian stores by the end of the year.
Drinks in North America will soon be made by default with the lower-fat milk, but customers can still request their cappuccino with whole milk, the company said.
Starbucks said it made the switch based on increased requests from consumers for low-fat milk in stores, as well as increasing purchases of lower-fat milk in U.S. consumers' homes.
The coffee-shop company tested the 2 percent espresso drinks in Jacksonville, Fla.; Orange County, Calif.; the state of Oregon; and London, Ontario, in Canada and said the results were "overwhelmingly positive."
A 16-ounce "grande" latte made with reduced fat milk has 190 calories, compared with 260 calories in one made with whole milk.
The company is also considering the switch to lower-fat milk in locations outside of North America.

Good for them. Their coffee still sucks

As an ex-starbucks employee I can absolutely say that the milk is a small dent in the unhealthy junk they serve. There are pastries that are served as "breakfast" that hit 600-700 calories, plus a sugar filled latte with non-fat is still around 800-100 Kcals. For some reason people think that because it's called "coffee" the lattes are free calories. It used to drive me nuts serving those things to people,

I had the same experience working as a barista there several years ago. There was this one woman who would always order a venti latte with heavy whipping cream instead of milk. That's 24 ounces of heavy whipping cream, which comes out to 2,500 calories and 265 grams of fat in one serving

that was all of us employees watching this person devour her latte.
The sickest part was the way she would drink it, with consecutive long sips and undivided attention, and a look of primordial hunger in her eyes. It always reminded me of those discovery channel clips with a closeup of a cheeta'a face as it feeds on a zebra carcass.

I love the description I've been forced to serve that drink and the best part is that it usually is for a woman going low-carb.

Ha - she used the same excuse: the Atkins diet. I'm not sure, but I think the good Dr. Atkins didn't recommend 2,500 calorie "snacks".

okay this just gave me the heebie jeebies... but I know what you are talking about. There was an acquaintance of mine who I've gone to dinner with on different occassions and it was bizarre to watch her eat. It was like she was making love (I really don't know how else to describe it) to every morsel of food.
I love food, but I haven't ever seen anyone eat like this.

HA! I heard you tell that story on a couple FitCasts not too long ago (still working my way through the archives). That's hilarious, and of course, the punchline always comes out when I'm doing something requiring balance and/or serious concentration. That and Kevin's fart jokes. I swear y'all time that stuff :p

I was wondering if anyone remembered that episode of the FitCast. I can't help telling that story - it became permanently etched in my mind the first time she made that order. I had to clarify with her several times, pulling out the carton and pointing at it, asking "you mean you want me to fill up your cup entirely with steaming whipping cream?"
Coming in a close second for my most told stories is the strung-out woman in her pajamas in 24 hr fitness doing bent over rows, entirely exposing herself while looking in the mirror.

And they have to devote entire shows on TLC to discuss why people are fat?
My sister worked at a cinnamon roll shoppe in high school (those big *ss ones that rival a loaf of bread) and daily some obese woman would come in to order TWO with extra cream cheese frosting and the requisite small diet coke.

At least you could give her props for using free weights John. Man you guys are harsh
There's a tea leaf across from the gym I work at and when I go in there to grab some tea it's funny, and sad, to see people coming out of the gym, with yoga mats in tow, loading up on that junk.
