Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I saw a sign in my local grocery store today. Yes, Krispy Kreme now has a 100% whole wheat doughnut! Sure it is still deep fried and sugar glazed, but it must be better for you.
Awesome. Now all I need to go with it is a vitamin enriched coke and I'm on my way to good health!!
What a bunch of shit. This pretty much sums up my feelings:
Quote:
"If you want a doughnut, eat a doughnut, but just because it has whole wheat in it doesn't mean it's healthy," says Mary-Jo Sawyer, a registered dietitian at the Virginia Commonwealth University Institute for Women's Health. "Stop trying to sugarcoat good health. Both original and [whole-wheat] ones are high-calorie, high- fat, and fat, and over half of the fat is saturated and trans, which are the types of fat we try to avoid to prevent heart attacks.
"You'd be better off with a bowl of high-fiber cereal, or a fruit or a salad. Just because it has fiber doesn't take away the negative side of nutrition. Who eats doughnuts for health anyway?"
It's like reduced fat oreos. As my dad says, "what's the point, have a real freakin' cookie!"

It gets better. Now another company is making an Oreo knockoff with flaxseed. They're touting them as "rich in Omega-3!" Yeesh. It's still a cookie.

Shades of "fatfree everything" from the late 80s, anyone? The sad thing: so many people will buy this shit because they think it's "healthy". Duuuuhhhh....
This oughtta get those BMIs up even quicker. Food fads, they never die... just change in macros.
You've gotta love big marketing and the brain dead sheep that follow it. I actually had a member come up to me at the gym the other day with a recipe for whole wheat sticky buns and ask me if they were healthy. Someone near by heard this and spun around gave her one of those "are you smoking crack" looks. I just pointed to that person and said there's your answer.
its like those 100 pack slim thin packs...people get all proud of themselvesfor buying those, i hope they realize soon that they are paying more for for an oreo subsitute, a fraction of an oreo
