Default My comments to 7-Up

Just sent this to 7-Up through their website, I'll be surprised if I get a response:

I just wanted to comment on your new 'natural' 7-Up. I put natural in quotes because I hate to break it to you, but your product is not natural. The first two ingredients alone are processed. CO2 is added to water to make it carbonated, which also makes it no longer natural. And high fructose corn syrup undergoes enzymatic processing to increase the fructose content of the syrup. Yes, corn syrup and fructose are natural, but the process makes the final product unnatural. If pre-historic man didn't have access to it, it is not natural, case closed.

My bigger point is that I think it sucks when a company tries to pass something off as healthy when it's not. I mean, people should have enough common sense to realize soda is horrible for you, the reason I haven't touched the stuff in 6 years, but the fact is that they don't. I'm not saying your product should be discontinued or anything like that, but soda is not healthy in any way shape or form and should not be advertised as such. This nation just keeps getting fatter, and the misinformation from ads like this isn't helping that fact.

Good for you!

I laugh every time I see that commercial where they're picking the 7-up cans out of the ground like their vegetables.

Truth in advertising...I think not! I can't believe Dateline or somebody hasn't tackled this one yet.

Let us know if you hear anything back.

Great! This means Whole Foods can carry 7-Up now! Just like they've carried Hansen's Natural Sodas for years.

Wait a second... does not contain "refined sugar"?? But if HFCS isn't a refined sugar, then what IS??

Here's the response I got, more than I expected, but they're still missing the point:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting us about 7UP. Your comments and inquiries are
appreciated because they provide valuable feedback about our brands.

Thank you for your comment. Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages recently
announced that the company will introduce new labeling on regular 7UP to provide
more information to consumers about the natural ingredients in 7UP. Cadbury
Schweppes Americas Beverages introduced the reformulated 7UP in spring 2006. The
product was developed following Food and Drug Administration (FDA) written
policy on natural products and ingredients. Many all natural products have
relied on this same policy for years. The consumer response to the great taste
of the reformulated 7UP and removal of artificial ingredients has been
overwhelmingly positive. We know many consumers are interested in a wide variety
of natural products and ingredients, but also that many, varied opinions on
labeling of all natural products exist. Therefore, the new label will go
beyond applicable regulations and move from saying "100% Natural" to
specifically highlighting those 7UP natural ingredients, for which there is no
debate. 7UP contains all natural flavors as well as no added colors, no
artificial preservatives and no caffeine. The great tasting 7UP that consumers
love and enjoy will not change.

Cadbury Schweppes has been making great brands that people love for more than
200 years. We are proud of our family of beverage and confectionery products and
are committed to providing a wide range of choices for all individuals.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We hope that you will continue to
purchase and enjoy our products.

Sincerely,

Consumer Relations
And they must've missed the part where I said I haven't touched soda in 6 years.

Does natural really mean anything?

Im going to make an 'all natural' chocolate bar, with omega 3's, low in fat, helps lower cholesterol, low sodium, jam packed with vitamens and minerals, and fights cancer.

What its really going to be is a big tub of HFCS in which I throw in a single fishoil pill, a handful of multi vitamens, a handful of blueberries, then I will throw in some cocoa and call it a day.. Sell them for $5 a peice and be a millionare by this time next year.
