Are you talking about a digestive tract cleansing?

No detox. No cleansing. No enemas. Eat healthy and things will move along just fine.

Q: Is it necessary to "Detox" my body?
Answer:
I don't think so.
For many people, it sounds like a miracle. A detox to get rid of all the toxins in your body.
But trust me, 7-days of detox does not undo 40 years of eating poorly. You have to focus on changing your lifestyle, not quick fixes.
And in my opinion, no one can EVER completely detox their body. With each breath, you take in particles besides the natural molecules found in the air. With each breath, your body is undergoing metabolism which produces many of the "waste byproducts" that a detox is supposed to "flush" from your system.
That's just the way your body works.
If you want to detox, do this long-term detox:
- no fast food
- no foods containing trans-fats
- no fried meats
- no smoking
- eat only whole, natural foods (organic if possible)
That's a good lifestyle to follow.

No problem.
I did think about this a little more, though. There's a benefit to "detoxing." It's the act of eliminating all the things that we know are likely to be bad for us. We stay on this diet for a while, and we notice how good we can feel.
At that point, the key is to slowly start adding things back in, keeping track as you do, noticing changes in mood and how your body feels.
We get used to what we eat and how we constantly feel. That becomes our norm. But, maybe we can do better. Strip down to the essentials and go from there.
Most detoxes are really low cal, too. No need for that. Can't keep things moving that way! In fact, if you become hungry, how are you going to notice any positive changes? I don't feel good when I'm hungry.
Personally, I would suggest something like Adam's Diet, but for the first week or two, do zero grains and no workout drinks. You might even go with no dairy for this period. No peanuts, either. Eggs, too. Eliminate anything you've ever even considered that you might be allergic to.
I think many people are allergic/have reactions to peanuts, grains (including corn and corn products (maltodextrine and dextrose), and dairy.
Eat as much as you want of fish, meats, veggies, and fruit. Nuts (no peanuts) and seeds are okay. Don't go hungry. Pre and post workout, I'd suggest a piece of fruit and something tasty and low fat like beef jerky, but any protein would do.
Keep a log of your foods (not calories or macros, just what they are), moods, body, etc. Every two days, add one type of food back in and carefully try to notice any changes. Note positives and negatives. If it's bad, remove it and wait two days. Then add another food. If it's good, you can add another in two more days.
This is just a thought. Nothing official. I think it accomplishes what one would want from a detox, but my version actually teaches you something about how your body reacts to foods.
By the way, I won't be offended if you think this is crazy or think it needs adjustments. Just thinking about it...

No, I've never done a Detox, was thinking about it, thought may help with my depression too, but doing the Adams, feeling a little better. Only thing, hard to tell, being flu season, but stomach is a mess, eating a lot of Almonds, wondering, if that is it....So, going to put those aside and brought in some fruit and peppers.
THANKS so much for your info...I really respect it.

oh man...
there's this woman i work with, and she CONSTANTLY talks about all these products. I just roll my eyes in my mind, because, i know this crap doesn't work. She works for some company that sells them... Isotronix or something like that.
All these regular customers that come in, she tries to tell them about the stuff. She tells them how a lot of the stuff "Isotronix" sells, is a great alternative to perscription medication. Basically she thinks that all the medical companies are out to get your money and their stuff doesn't work, and this works just as well for a cheaper price.
ughhh

I personally think there might be something to colonics but generally I agree with Lost Dog.
It's true that you might be allergic to some of the things he listed but I sincerely doubt you will be to all of them. You just gotta experiment I guess.

Hey just from personal experience, I can vouch for at least some of these detox techniques. My chiropractor/homeopathic medicine doctor had me do a detox years ago. I was sick all the time with allergies, asthma, colds and flus, among other things. After several weeks of eating raw and drinking shakes that detox, along with vitamin supplementation and accupuncture several times a week, I was feeling amazing. Most importantly, I just plain don't get sick anymore. My doctor said I had a weak immune system, and she took care of it. So maybe not everyone needs to detox, but I do believe that it helped my situation.

if you ever look at websites discussing colon cleansing, you find that everyone's shit looks the same. It's a very weird shape after they take the pills, the reason being that the pills create stuff to make it look like that.
It's just a big gimick.

Before I switched over to living a healthier lifestyle I would detox my system for 30 days after the first of the year. I would go on a eating plan that consisted of only fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains. I would not consume any alcohol, caffiene, animal products or processed foods. I would feel great after I was done and I would spend another week eating low fat and still pretty healthy to ween my body off of it. It worked out really well for me but I don't think you need to use any of the cleansing products that are out there. If you do something like this make sure you have a week to 10 days to slowly return to eating meats or your system will rebel. Trust me.
