Default Weight Watchers/dieting and muscle loss question

Consider that a person is doing the following on a diet such as Weight Watchers:
  • adhering to required calories, points, etc.
  • lifting weights regularly
  • paying more attention to required calories and not macros, which could mean a diet on the low side for protein intake.
Although weight loss occurs as a result of the calorie deficit, what happens to the weight loss effort and body over time due to possible low protein intake while lifting weights. I am assuming that there will be possible muscle loss.

Thanks.

There are contridicting studies on this issue. Some say that it takes very little protien to maintain muscle, others disagree.

Its going to be pretty hard to get a 100% answer on this one.

Thanks, Frank. Well, maybe that's why I haven't been able to find conclusive information. I'd love to hear what others have to say or a referral to a source with more technical information.
