POLL: Sugar or Sugar Substitute?
Let's say you have two identical products:
- One product has regular sugar, but more calories.
- The second product is exactly the same, except instead of sugar, it has a sugar substitute and fewer calories than the first product.
Which one do you choose?

what are you using said product for? If it were after workout I would choose the former, but usually avoid sugar any other time (unless its a few grams here or there, like say...cottage cheese)

I would go for the non-sweetened version. If it was a drink, I'd go for the no calorie option and not drink them very often. I've decided I don't like foods cooked with splenda. Just plain sweet and no flavor. So I'm trying to find the perfect natural sweetener (such as fruits) for baked treats.
if it's chocolates, give me the real stuff

It really depends on what food it is and how often I eat it. For fruit flavored yogurt as a snack, I typically get the kind with artificial sweetener, and I use a bit of Splenda when I cook oatmeal. If it's something I eat rarely, I indulge and use the real thing -- like chocolate, genuine maple syrup, or Christmas cookies.

Artificial.
And, here's my tip of the day. If it's too sweat with Splenda, use less Splenda.

I hate it when my food is too sweaty. That's even worse than when it's too sweet!
99% of the time artificial sweetener, unless like someone else mentioned, it's a minor amount anyway.

I don't like the artificial sweetener after taste. Plus, is the possible harmful side effects of sugar substitutes still a concern?

In my world it depends on the sweetner.
If it's a cyclamte based sweetner I'd go with the sugar.
If it was Splenda or Aspartame i'd go with the artificial ones.
Aspartame has been tested to death and no actual links have been found.
I would think the american public should be more scare of the harmful effects of sugar.
Og.

not just too sweet. It's sweet with no flavor! Do a taste test with sugar/brown sugar/even powdered sugar and you'll see there's flavor too :p (but be sure to do it pwo )
