Fish Oil and Asthma : Results are in
Ok, so a little while back I mentioned that I wanted to experiment with increased amounts of fish oil, to see if I could combat my asthma.
Well, here's what I recorded:
1st 10 days
3g epa/dha per day (1.5 g taken twice - the same as it has been for 6 months)
Avg Inhaler use per day: 5.3 sprays (sometimes a double spray at once for weezing, sometimes just one spray to open things up)
2nd 10 days
6g epa/dha per day (2 combined grams taken 3 different times)
Avg Inhaler use per day: 2.1 sprays (i've also skipped my Singulair pill 3 times during this period) - the last couple of days it's been down to one spray a day
Now, this looks pretty good. And to tell you the truth, I feel the difference in the clarity of my breathing.
To play fair, there are other factors to be considered: I was working out far less during the first 10 days... which also included time in a different state with different allergens (SC) over the holidays.
I will continue to monitor and update, to see if things go back to normal or not.
As it is, I'm very excited about the changes.

6/3 grams, how are you getting that kind of intake? what supplement?
Either way, really interesting results. Reminds me why I started taking fish oil.

That's great, Ian. I have my 14 year old son taking fish oil, 2g per day right now. He's noticed a difference.
Thanks for posting.

If you are using your resuce inhaler that many times per day you NEED to see your doctor and tell him you need to switch your medicine. You should not be using it everyday even. If you don't mind my asking what else are you taking? I am on prevental(resuce) Advair(500/50 one puff twice a day), Allegra(can't remember dose), and singulair(again can't remember dose).

Thanks for your concern guys. However, I can't see the doctor any time soon... no health insurance.
For a long time I only had to use it 1-2 a week, then this past fall I started having to use it more and more.
Perhaps some day I will be able to afford $150 for somebody to scribble a name on a piece of paper for me... as it is, I have just enough to pay my current bills.
p.s. I do also take Singulair... $110 a month.
p.p.s. So you take the Allegra as well? Isn't that the over-the-counter stuff?

Ian, you have both asthma and allergies? My brother does.
Thanks for the info and I'm glad it's helping you. You're a good man.
