Default Protein suppliment, thinking of buying

im thinking of buying a protein suppliment to help add some mass.
I tried the search engine, but i got so many hits using words like "protein suppliment" though i realize this question probobly has been answered before.

Ive remember reading before on another forum about buying the powders that only have protein, and not lots of carbs and protein, because they taste crap and you can just get the two separate for a cheaper price.

Up until now ive been using chocholate milk, 0.5L drinking half during and half after training, this is high in carbs and has decent protein because of the milk. But with the protein powder it will be almost no carbs and only protein, but i should get liquid carbs too right after training and during, am i right?
So should i keep bringing chocholate milk to the gym as a carb drink to drink half before and half after and drink a protein shake in addition?

Any advice would be appritiated. If nessecary, just direct me to the correct posts/articles.
Oh, BTW: im bulking.

For protein supplements you should find a good whey protein; and a good casein/milk protein blend; as this is slow digesting and optimal for pre-bed meals.

Here are some proteins that I've used/like:

-Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey
-CytoSport Muscle Milk
-Metabolic Drive

and I've heard good things about CytoSport EvoPro.

And as far as your PWO drink you could add some gatorade/powerade powder to your whey and make a good tasting drink. . . . man I don't know how you drink chocolate milk during training that'd make me sick. BUT if it's working for ya don't sweat it.

Hope this helps a little bit.

-Matt

Check out trueprotein.com for good prices on good quality protein. Also, check your local wholesale club (BJ's, Sam's Club, Costco, etc) as they usually carry 5lb tubs for around $23.

Optimum nutrition protein is good.

Muscle milk tastes good, but it's questionable about how healthy it is. but if you want to add mass, getting calories is important.

True protein's BSL protein's are awesome.

If you're going for a mpr (meal replacement), i would just get a basic chocolate protein powder, and add peanut butter or oil to it. Way healthier than muscle milk.

I have a question about this. i just went and bought some protein powder and carb powder. My workout consist of first free weights, then cycling for 20-25 minnutes. The cycling is rehab for my knee, im suppose to do it every day to get the blood flowing in the knee. Its very low intensity, my heartrate goes up to about 90-100 BPM. So, when i finish weight training, should i drink the protein and carbs shakes before i go cycling, or after?
You should get liquid protein and carbs right after weight training, so im guessing i should take it before i hit the bike?
