Default Malto/Dextrose Serving Size

I have a 5 pound zip lock bag of both dextrose and maltodextrin. What is an accurate serving size to put in my pre and post WO shakes? I have been using about 2.5 tablespoons of each but I have no idea how I came up with that serving size.

Each has about 50 cals/13g of carbs per tablespoon.

So, that's 250 cals and 63g C in each drink.

I have a kitchen scale that switches from oz to g and I measure out a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein.

He means the protein scooper that comes in your whey. The 70cc scoop is about 45g dextrose.

Malto is usually around 45-48g carbs per 1/2 cup.

Nice. Does anyone use both Malto and dextrose, or since they are being added to protein, there is no need to use both?? And if so, which one is superior to use in a PWO shake?

Doesn't make a difference really, except for taste. Malto has no taste, and dextrose is real sweet.

dextrose is very sweet, while malto is like a 10th of the sweetness.

if you were trying to cut, and thus not using a 2:1 ratio of carbs:protein PWO, the dextrose isn't bad.

if you can't gag it down, go with maltodextrin. its not that much more expensive than dextrose, which is cheap to start with.

Malkore, even if you were cutting, why would you not use a 2:1 carb/protein mix in your PWO drink?

it just depends on who you read, what diet you're on, etc.

the current lipolysis diet I"m on is VERY carb restrictive on non-weight training days...I couldn't have carbs post cardio even if I wanted.

and on weight days, I can't quite do a full 2:1. More like a 1.5:1.

for me, its working. in general i think a 2:1 is a good place to start...and tweak it from there based on your individual needs and goals.

I've found, through trial and error, that when I've been eating low carb, a low carb pwo drink works just fine (1:1 or even 0:1 C to P).

When I'm eating moderate carb (like Testosterone Advantage Plan moderate), I need the 2:1. If I have mix days, where some are low and some are high/moderate, I still need the 2:1 ratio.

I think your body acclimates to the level of carbs and insulin sensativity, over a decent period of time. Low carb for a week or month (even with periodic refeeds) and I can do the 0:1. Low carb every other day, and it's not long enough for the body to get down to it. Still need the 2:1 to have a strong workout and recover.

The biggest downside to the carbs, pwo, is that it makes me crave more carbs. I'm miserable until the day is done. So, while 0:1 might not be optimal for recovery, it's good enough. Even 1:1 is terrible (mentally) when I know I need to go low carb again, after that drink.

LD,

I totally agree, carbs make me hungry too, and I'm so low carb on my non-training days right now that any amount on training days feels like a lot.
