Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
What do you think is the best tool/website, etc too track your dietary intake? Currently I use www.thefitnesshub.com but im wondering if there are better options? Websites that use the most up-to-date/comprehensive database of foods, user friendly, customizable etc.
Calorie King also has a stand alone program for your PC; it doesn't communicate with the website, however.
Diet Power is another good food-tracking program, but again, not web-based.
I think fitday is fine for an internet program, and it's free. Free is always good... not a fan of how the site is organized but hey, you get what you pay for.
Actually, CalorieKing desktop does sync with the online version if you have both. I also have the Palm version and can keep all three synced. I really only use the desktop and palm, though.
CalorieKing is one of the main reasons I was able to lose a lot of weight.

I'm sorry... I misspoke... but it is only a one-way sync. Your web entries don't sync back to the desktop if you do online entry. It's a good overall program though for sure.
I used to use calorie king and still own the pc version. But I have recently switched to Crosstrainer. Crosstrainer has the USDA database included, and I liked the interface for adding your own foods, it has a recipe calculator, and in my opinion a better exercise tracker/manager. Downsides Crosstrainer's data base doesn't have as many convenience foods in it and some of the restaurant info is really old. http://www.crosstrainer.ca/
It's been over a year since I used CK but it was a nice program. I liked the on line reports better than the desktop but I logged in the desktop. One really nice feature for the on-line program was the ability to subtract foods ie you had dinner at Chili's and didn't eat half the bun etc the program would subtract the item. Both the online and desktop put a big emphasis on net calories meaning they subtract exercise calories from the total amount eaten. I detested that. But it was easy to work around I did all my exericse as a custom entry with zero calories.
I think all the programs are good but will be tedious at first until you have enough custom entries to make using it easier.
I have used fitday exclusively since I started. I have over the years looked at other free ones and although I liked how they looked, or thought they had potential I never switched over. I have so much custom food in fitday.
That being said. Last night it took me a million hours to input the days food. Although the new fitday has added a lot of features to speed up entering common foods, the flash (I assume it is flash) aspect of the design seems to slow it down far more than any benefits you get.
Today I am trying mydailyplate.com. It is maybe the first real shot I am giving it. Other times I looked at it I wasn't actually logging my food much.
So far today I was able to add my breakfast pretty much to a T without adding any custom food, I liked that. It also allows me to tag when I ate something, I like that too.
The search seems to work better. I can type strawberry into the search engine and have strawberry come up, as opposed to, "No foods found matching "stawberry".", I get on fitday.
I believe mydailyplate to be a superior tracking site, I just need to use it.
Og.

I've used DietPower for well over a decade. Over-all, it's a good program but there are a couple of aspects I find annoying -
You must enter your weight every day you use the program. They should allow users to by-pass this requirement.
Once you've made a food item selection and entered it, you must hit the "Esc" key to back out and make another selection. "Esc" also terminates whatever activity you are engaged in when in "base state". For example, if you are entering a new recipe, you need to hit "Esc" after selecting and entering a food item to reset the database for the next food item selection. If you hit it twice, it dumps you out of the recipe module, saving nothing.....You have to start over. I can't begin to guess how many times I've done that when in a hurry to enter something. It does pop up a screen asking whether you really want to proceed, but it's often proven too late. This situation just does not have to be.....But they have never addressed it in their program revisions.
I have looked at others over the years and liked what I found in some, particularly Nutribase. If there was a way to export all of foods and recipes I've entered into DietPower over the years, I would probably switch to Nutribase.

I'm looking for a diet tracking system that tracks in grams, and is web based. I have tried Dietorganizer and Fitday, both were OK, but D.O. is PC based, and neither has the option to track in grams. (Fitday can track in grams for foods in the database, but not for custom entries. At least not that I have found-if anyone can correct me on this please do.)
The reason I'm looking for both requirements is for accuracy in tracking with grams vs. oz/scoop/cup methods; and online so that I can check in on my clients (I am a P.T.) diets whenever I have the time to do so.
So are any of the above listed trackers web based and track in grams?
If you create a custom food in Fitday, you can make the "serving" into whatever you like. So if you enter data for one gram, it can track grams for you.
I admit Fitday can be frustrating and often time-consuming. Many of the database foods are in ridiculous amounts -- who eats one cup of wheat germ in one meal? I have to keep using .0625 cup (one tablespoon) for many foods.
