Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
Just stopped by the store today, and discovered a new Muscle Milk version: Muscle Milk Light.
This version has about a third of the fat and a little less protein than the normal stuff, which may be a better fit for some diets.
However, one of the biggest differences is that it no longer has the glycocyamine. That's the stuff they claimed was a "creatine precursor"... but was also bashed in several places for being toxic.
Agreed -- I checked this out a few weeks ago at my local discount nutrition store. The owner said he has a feeling that CytoSport will someday terminate the original Muscle Milk line, and make everything with the light formula.

We've been ordering Evopro (protein in MM) and we're pretty happy with it. It doesn't have the nasty stuff in and it has less calories, yey Same great taste, of course!

EvoPro is GOOD. The vanilla a super creamy.

OK, so Michael or Galya--does this stuff (or MM lite) have thickeners?
I use pp in my AM protein waffles (yum yum)... the ones w/o thickening agents tend to ruin my concoction though (pulls apart in the waffler, no bueno!). I did like the taste of regular MM... just not the caloric load.

Thanks,

Its thick since its got cassin in it. More so than whey at least
Kevin, we've tried the tropical flavor and the chocolate. I hated the tropical stuff but love the chocolate.
Tina, I make my bars with it and they stay together just like with whey.
Casein makes the best waffles and bars in my honest opinion.

Thanks, Kevin and Galya. I am using ON casein now; works pretty well but I am fickle
Another good one (for waffles and such) is Beverly's Ultimate Muscle Protein... but damn that stuff is 'spensive! A little too much so to put in a pancake, LOL!
I think tropical flavors all taste like crap. Something about fake bananas... BLEEECCCH.
Ahh, I am impatient, I bought one of choc and one c&c
I would definitely be interested to hear how those taste, especially compared to the regular MM. I've heard you and others on the Fitcast rave about the C&C flavor and it would be great if the EvoPro is as good.
I posted this in Kevin's EvoPro review thread, but I'm not sure who subscribes to Dave Barr's newsletter. He writes for T-nation and exposed the suspect ingredient in Muscle Milk (glycocyamine-- spelling?). Well I received his newsletter a couple days ago, and it indicated that CytoSport was taking that ingredient out of Muscle Milk.
Hooray, now we can drink all the Muscle Milk we want!

The question is did they take it out of all MM or just the MM Light?
here is a copy of the email. . . All I've done is cut and paste from my mail account.
Dear Matt, I am happy to announce that Cytosport, the makers of Muscle
Milk, have opted to remove the potentially harmful ingredient known as
glycocyamine from their products.
I have to thank you, the consumer, for your concern and feedback to the
company, and of course T-Nation for the opportunity to publish my
Barrticle about it.
There are still several companies that use potentially harmful
ingredients (including glycocyamine) in their products, but this is a good
start.
Just because they took it out of the light, doesn't mean it's out of the regular. Perhaps they will, but I haven't seen any announcement or anything. They ingredients still list glycocyamine in regular Muscle Milk, but it could take a while for old stock to be depleted, new ingredient lists posted, etc.

We'll see.
I got this in the middle of the week. . . and I'm assuming judging from what it says is that CytoSport is GOING to stop using it in the near future. Yes they have Muscle Milk Light, and I too checked the ingredient listing on Muscle Milk @ Bodybuilding.com. . . . . . but I guess I interpreted it to mean that they will stop using it all together. And I don't think you'll see much to-do about. . . as most people have never heard of T-nation, read Dave Barr's article, or even know that the compound is dangerous.
Just my thoughts, and how I interpreted this email. I guess we'll see soon.
Yeah. I hope they ditch it in all the products, I wish Dave Barr had said more about it. Like that he heard from them that they were eliminating the ingredient in their products or something.
Since the Ready to Drink versions don't contain glycocyamine it seems like that would be a viable option too. The only thing I'm concerned about is the taste; I have tried a couple RTD's but haven't been too impressed with the taste. I saw some cookies & creme RTD shakes today at the store and bought a 4-pack (in the fridge now cooling off). Can anyone say how these compare in taste to the MM c&c powder you buy and mix yourself?
I've had vanilla and C&C RTD
I had a tub of chocolate caramel pecan powder.
The powder tasted way better to me. Maybe because I mixed it fresd, unlike the RTD, which was sitting on the shelf for who-knows-long.
Also, with the powder, you have the option of mixing it with milk, which makes it taste much better than the water-based RTDs.
