Default Dairy question

When you eat cheese, do you eat regular, low-fat, no-fat? I like it and I do eat it, but I'm not sure what is the best option. When I look at cheese that is regular and cheese that is part-skim, I don't see a difference in additives other than the milk that is used to make it.

What about yogurt? milk?

I drink 2% milk, eat 2% CC, I don't really eat yogurt, and I eat full-fat cheese (unless it's mozzerella). Saturated fat belongs in your diet to some extent, so don't be afraid of eating the good stuff!

Like LD said once, "Don't fear the fat"

Just be aware that it has a lot of calories per gram.

If you can afford the reduced fat cheese; then the cabot cheeses are some of the best out there. Fat free cheeses are pretty nasty and very processed so I'd avoid them. People shy away from full fat cheeses because of the saturated fat content but I love them so I make it work in my nutritional plan. When buying Mozzarella cheese (or cheese sticks) part-skim is a good choice.

For yogurt you should probably avoid the ones with added fruit because that usually mean sugar too. Stoneyfield nonfat, lowfat, and whole plain yogurts are all great just choose the option that best fits into your diet and add your own fruit.

Milk is the same a yogurt; use what fits in your nutritional plan but skim milk is the most versatile. Organic milk taste better and lasts longer in the fridge so I think it is worth the extra money. I also love the chocolate calorie countdown milk (formerly carb countdown)

Hope this helps

Thanks Michael...that helps a lot. It's good to know organic lasts longer. For some reason around here, it's hard to find milk that does. Now I'm excited to go to the store..I have new ideas

Og...I think you hit the nail on the head...I really need to get over my fear of the the fat. Galya tried to tell me that a while ago and I can't seem to get past it. I'm going to go for it though Time to go eat some brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Oh wait..you didn't mean that kind of fat?

Yeah def not in those configurations!

When they released that "study" about a single does of saturated fat increased your chance of a heart attack, we discussed it a tonne!

Cassandra said that in the studies she had done that she didn't see that negative response from saturated fat, not by itself anyhow. I think the basic conclusion was that saturated fat and sugar in combo are probably a bad thing, which is really what the study had found as their fat meals were like carrot cake and a milkshake or something like that.
Special question for Cassandra

I spent a couple of weeks eating only veggies for carbs, everything else came from protein or fat, I lost weight. I couldn't eat enough food, unless I maybe sat down with the spoon and the PB jar.

I have sinced re-introduced oatmeal in an attempt to add some size.
