Default initial effects of Greens+/not so great

I can feel it doing something. I am absolutely convinced it's doing me good and that it's an amazing product and I intend to make it an integral part of my diet.
Yet, I haven't been doing well since I started taking Greens+.
It's been a week and I've started experiencing some very unpleasant joint pain in joints that have been hurt, as well as ligaments and what feels like bone. I have a history of arthritis as well as RA (or they thought so) in the past and all of the once affected joints are sore.
The GI issues I can deal with, I assume the digestive help is causing more activity in my stomach and intestines (I get hungry a lot after taking Greens and almost hypoglycemic and also make more trips to the bathroom, but I assume that's normal). I also had a fever yesterday. It seems like every time I take a teaspoon and 1/2 (not even doing the whole 3 tsp) I get very hot (almost like fever). To make an intelligent guess: could it be that it's already helping my body rebuild and maybe that's causing inflammation and pain or could I be relating two absolutely unconnected things. I thought it was PMS but I've never had these symptoms before.
Just wondering if anyone experienced anything weird when they first started?

You might just be getting sick & it has nothing to do with Greens+. I have lupus and certain foods flare it (including chocolate...sigh...) I've had no problems with Greens+ though. I'm taking the berry flavored one because everyone says the regular flavor is gag-city.

If you read the ingredients, is there anything there that you are sensitive to? Or that you haven't had in the past?

I'm with Dogmama...may be an allergy, may be coincidence with getting some viral thing. Maybe quit taking it for a few days and see what happens. Have you posted this issue over at the PN forums? I suspect there are a lot more people using Greens over there and may have better input. I've been taking it for about 3 mos now and have never had any adverse affects (my experience) with one sometimes two servings per day.

Hang in there and good luck...Ted

Why? Your response tells you the exact opposite.

Galya, I agree with Adam: Your body is telling you that this product is not for you. Stop it now and let your body get back to normal before you give it another shot.

Also, you might want to contact Tammy Thomas at her website:
http://www.proactivitysupport.com/
She has battled with RA and might offer you some feedback to her responses to Greens if she's used it.

Thanks Cass, I've talked to Tammy on PN during the past few months. I will ask her about Greens+, she's been great help before.
I've been doing better today, did a 6 hour hike. I will keep taking some (less) and see if I do fine. I have taken a step back.
Adam, I feel my GI tract is better (regular) that can't be bad. The joint issues are weird though, hope it wasn't related.
Nothing on the list of ingredients I could be sensistive to.
Time will tell above all.

There are a variety of greens products. Maybe, if you can identify the ingredient that's causing the issue, you can switch to one that doesn't have the offending ingredient.

Oh, I thought you said it was causing GI issues. Could it be that the probiotics specifically in Greens+ are what's helping you then? You can obviously get those from other sources, so maybe you should try that, discontinue Greens+, and see what happens. Or it could just be that you've come down with something, and it's all a coincidence.

One issue with Greens+ that no one ever talks about is that they throw just about everything in there--and pardon the flaming cliche--but the kitchen sink. It's a classic supplement company catch-all strategy. If each of these ingredients can be good on its own, then all of them together in one product must be great. But it doesn't really work that way. We are all individuals and some things in Greens+ might be beneficial, and some things may provide a negative effect, depending on many factors (for instance, your diet).

Perhaps there is an ingredient in Greens+ that is pro-inflammatory (at least for you), which might explain your joint pain. The idea that this is simply part of your body rebuilding seems like a stretch to me.

Gayla, just take the product out of your diet completely instead of cutting back. You're not doing your body any good by just reducing the symptoms with a smaller dose. I know you're on a ketogenic diet, which in itself is naturally anti-inflammatory. You don't need to add something that is causing your RA symptoms to flare up.

If you want suggestions for an excellent probiotic, I would recommend Ultra Primal Defense by Garden of Life coupled with Flora Q. I've had some major gut issues and have tried almost every probiotic and I can honestly say that these two have done wonders for me.

Take a Greens+ break and come back to it only if you feel like you absolutely need to.

Best, Cass

CAssandra, what are these 2 products? Never heard of them. I too have "major gut issues"...

Thanks you for your input Adam and Cass.
I have started upping calories today, since some of my symptoms could be related to low cal intakes during the last 6 weeks. Also, I am stopping Greens until I get better and I will add it when I feel great to see whether it was the Greens at all. I hope it was not but we'll see. I will keep you posted.
Have a great week!

Default greens alternatives

Hi Galya,

I use a product called "All One" (phytonutrient+ formula) that is similar to Greens+. Greens gets lots of free ads on boards like these, but whoever mentioned alternatives was right - there are plenty! The Ultimate Meal is another similar product. I think you can look these up online. If you can't find them, they're usually available at Whole Foods in the US. I know you don't live there, but maybe you know someone who does?
Otherwise, next time I'm in the States I can try to pick some up for you and send it. (I live in Hong Kong).

Very intersting. I'm looking forward to hearing whether or not Greens Plus caused your inflammation problems, Galya.
