Lisa and Mike, thanks for all of the info. and Mike, I'm still a young buck too, just thought if I got a head start things wouldn't be so bad later. Thanks again!

hmmm... this is interesting...

I take a daily vitamin pack, and one of the pills is an EFA caplet. In the suppliment facts, it says the cap has 1200 mg of fish oil, but the fatty acid composition is 360 mg of EPA and 240 mg of DHA. So what's the other half of the caplet? is this a normal ratio for fish oil, or did they cut it with something else?

Regardless, after reading this thread, I think I'm going to get an additional fish oil suppliment. I could use the extra help on my joints, and probably mental health, too.

I am currently breastfeeding and taking prescription prenatal vitamins that contain EFAs, and I also take organic flaxseed oil supplements, but I am going to switch that to fish oil (thanks for the info on the difference).

I have read that studies have shown EFAs help to reduce post partum depression (or any depression) b/c of their positive impact on brain function and serotonin levels.

So, basically, some of the preferred brands are Coromega, Omega-RX, and Health by Sun? Also, is there a fishy aftertaste with some brands or forms of fish oil more than others? I don't think I would do too well with fishy burps like Cynic gets.

Here's a thread from a couple of months ago where fish oil was discussed in more detail. The links and comments from Michael Roussell and Lost Dog might give you more of the information you're interested in.

So there I am, walking through the mall on the way to Tim Horton's, and I pass by the supplement store. Remembering this thread, I decide to price out the fish oil caps, and I came across this product:

http://www.genuinehealth.com/english...28&section=105

I was going to quote from the site but can't seem to copy and paste text. In any case, they appear to be quoting research that links omega3 (esp EPA) to decreased risk of depression and seasonal depression.

So, dunno about their research, but appears someone else has come to the same conclusion as you guys, and is marketing off of it!
