Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I'm in outside sales and spend a good amount of my day behind the wheel. The only meals that I can guarantee that can be hot are breakfast and dinner, sometimes lunch.
Typically I'll bring for meals in my cooler:
- salad with grilled chicken or steak
- tuna salad
- turkey or ham sandwich
- couple apples, grapes and/or strawberries
- a couple string cheeses
- yogurt
- sometimes if I know I'll be around a microwave some chili
I'm looking for some new ideas for meals that are quick and can be eaten cold. I've considered doing some type of lettuce wrap so I can decrease my grain intake but I'm not sure how fresh they will stay in the cooler. Shakes are difficult to keep cold because of the size of the cooler, sometimes I'll use something like Myoplex or Muscle Milk but I'm trying to stay with whole foods as much as possible also.
Most of the time I'm eating in my car on the road or in a parking lot so please keep that in mind.
Also, how does my diet look overall?
Breakfast always consists of 2 egg whites nd 2 whole eggs (Omega 3 style), canadian bacon or tky sausage and oatmeal with blueberries. Dinner is always some type of lean meat or fish with veggies, sometimes a sweet potato and very rarely rice.
Thank you very much for any help on this.
Dave

Have you considered some of the low carb tortillas, some of them are as low as 3 net carbs, plus 5 of fiber. I think they taste great, there are at least three brands, WalMart carries them. Rob
To get more veggies into your day, pack some of these:
snack pack sized baby carrots
sugar snap peas (sometimes you can find them in snack packs too)
broccoli, cauliflower, yellow squash and celery are good raw too and sometimes available already cut up and ready to eat in bags
take a tiny tupperware of dressing for dipping if you don't like them plain
or add black olives and a pesto as your dipping sauce to change the flavors
If you want to make lettuce wraps, just keep the lettuce separate until it's time to eat, that way it will stay crunchy and fresh. Bring the filling in a tupperware to dump onto the lettuce just before you eat the wrap.
Also there are variations on cole slaw that use cottage cheese instead of mayo. These are very good, are eaten cold and get in another serving of vegetables.
If you're going to eat string cheese, you could always wrap your sandwich meat around the cheese and eat it like that. Then veggies on the side.
If you are eating the fruit as a snack, it's good mixed into cottage cheese. Depending on the fruit you might sweeten it with a little Splenda. You can add a small amount of nuts, like walnuts. Great snack and very yummy. This one works mixed up at home or mixed on site, either way.
For the shakes, how about putting a serving of protein powder into a shaker bottle and not putting that into the cooler at all. Then when you're ready to drink it, just add cold water and shake.
On those days when you know you'll be around a microwave, bring frozen mixed veggies in a microwavable bowl. Take them out of the freezer in the morning and add whatever you like to them for taste, and put the container into your cooler. They will begin to thaw, and then you can cook them in the microwave for just a couple of minutes and eat.
How bad is it to eat steak cold? I do it all of the time.
Mind you, sometimes I do it with chicken which probally isnt the smartest.
Do you mean cold as in raw, or cold and in cooked but has been sitting in the refrigerator? If it's the latter, you're fine, assuming the food has not sat in the back of the refrigerator for the past month
