Default Introduction and Question

Hello everyone:

Thought it was about time I introduce myself. I am Steve, Kevin Larrabee told me about JPFitness which I can't thank him enough for. You guys are great and JP, you have done a fantastic job! I look forward to communicating with everyone.

As for my question, I have been changing/correcting my pre and post workout nutrition. I like Berardi's views of drinking a 2:1 C - P shake around your workouts. I just can't bite the bullet and splurge on surge from biotest which I hear is very good.

I tried today, for the first time, mixing vanilla whey with orange powder gatorade and it was just too sweet for me. I have been drinking chocolate whey with milk for years now and the change made me want to vomit. I had a real crappy workout b/c my stomach was so screwed up. Yes, I am a wimp when it comes to new foods and drinks!

So any other suggestions for getting my carbs in while sticking with my chocolate whey?

I look forward to hearing from ya.

Maybe try out Designer Whey, because it's not very sweet compared to most other wheys.

Of course, you may just hate the fruit flavoring. Artificial fruit flavoring always kills my stomach.

Order some maltodextrin online and mix that with your vanilla and/or chocolate. Much cheaper than Gatorade or Surge or any of that, with no flavoring.

I agree with RockHard. If you are bent on sticking with chocolate whey then just buying some dextrose and/or maltodextrose and adding it to your shake is the way to go.

I'm a big fan of hydrolyzed whey. You can get that in Anator p70 (ha, just kidding don't), Surge, Relentless (by xtreme Formulations), or just buy VP2 Pro from AST-SS (this is pure hydrolyzed whey) and add sugar.

Kevin. VP2-Pro comes in Fruit Punch and it is awesome!

I have never used dextrose or maltodextrose. I know what they are, but is there an optimal product or blend of the 2 to use for the most efficient and effective insulin spike and aborption?

Basically maltodextrin is the "best" and dextrose is a very close second for inducing the PWO insulin spike. You're probably not going to be able to tell the difference (I dont at least. . .). I use ON's chocolate mint whey (which is fanfreakintastic, btw - not too sweet and really good flavor.), which unfortunately doesnt go too well with the super sweet pwo powders (gatroade, powerade, etc). What I like is just buying bulk maltodextrin from proteinfactory.com which is unflavored and not sugary tasting and just mixing teh two for a pre-wo and post-wo shake.

I since have done the same, mixing plain maltodextrose with my chocolate whey, which works out fantastic for my pre and post workout shakes. Mint chocolate chip does sound appetizing though, I might just have to try that!
Do you mix it with water?

yep - ice cold preferrably. Pretty refreshing after a hard workout, heh.
