Default 6 meals a day

I am trying to get rid of my small spare tire. I have tried to eat 6 meals a day. example:
Breakfast: 2 eggs multigrain toast and juice
snack: protien drink
lunch: salad and piece of fruit
snack: protien drink
dinner: beef veggies and salad
snack: lowfat pudding

I do roughly 30 min of cardio a day followed by a different bodypart weight traing 5 days a week. I jus can't seem to get my bodyfat down and when i put on this eatting habit of 6 meals I seem to put weight on. I have a meduim frame and weigh 185lbs.

HELP

I think we might need more info on you but my first guess would be not enough calories.

I would guess your eating around 450 cals at breakfast, maybe 150 in each protein drink, depending on the # of scoops you are using, Salad a fruit is maybe 250, and then maybe like 500 for the beef veggies and salad. Low fat pudding? 100 cals or so?

My rough estimate puts you ar 1600 cals which is WAY to low, especially if you are just trying to lose a small "spare" tire.

I would personally convert one of the protein drinks into a PWO shake. I like protein shakes so I would have the other one some other time.

I would ditch the juice. I would have an omlette for breakfast and ditch the toast, maybe add some veggies to the omlette. I would make sure I had a lean protein source with every meal and eat plenty of veggies with it as well.

I would Set up my workouts to be 3 day a week full body workouts, probably lifting heavy. I would do HIIT in my off days. I would have my toast an hour or so after my workout with lean protein and veggies.

Most importantly though I would determine some sort of idea of how many calories I need to maintain my bodyweight. Either a Harris-benedict forumla, BWx15, actual testing. Once you have that you can make a decent estimate on how many calories you need in a day to lose weight.

That's my 2 cents.

Alwyn answered a question on the Fitcast this week about losing the last few pounds which may work for you. He suggested that if you had been dieting for quite sometime that you give your metabolism a boost for three or four weeks by increasing your calories above maintenance level but still eating clean. You would follow that up by dropping to a stricter diet about 500 calories below maintenance but not less thgan 1800 calories. As far as the workouts and cardio I agree with what Ogedei suggested using whole body workouts or maybe upper and lower body splits if you wanted to put in four days at the gym. You could either do off day cardio or follow your weight training sessions with it.

Good Luck

Og has it right. You're not getting enough calories spaced out through the day. You have no protein at lunch, unless you're adding chicken or something to your salad that you didn't mention. Lowfat pudding is junk and isn't helping at all, especially if it's not the sugar-free kind. You don't want sugar just before bed. Cottage cheese would be a better choice.

Check out www.johnberardi.com and read some articles on nutrition. You should have protein and veggies in each of your six feedings.

Something like Turbulence Training for Fat Loss will be a good workout plan. See www.turbulencetraining.com

Best of luck to you.

You never said you were still putting weight on. You said your BF wasn't going away. Two very different things.

Like I said I was largely guessing and we probably need more information about you, when you workout, what workouts your currently doing. Yeah and not just generalizations.

Goals, height, weight, age, portion sizes

Ditto what Og said.

I'd guess portion sizes could be a problem. Are there condiments and things that you didn't mention? You said "salad" but didn't say how it was dressed. Also, what kind of protein drink do you have twice a day? There are some designed as a bulking supplement.

I can't really add more to what has already been said. If you are indeed putting on weight, than it' safe to assume that you're either under-reporting what you're REALLY eating, or overestimating your caloric expenditure in the gym. More thorough info would help:

Sorry to be a bit picky here, but seems like he said both to me.

Fair enough and I read it that he was having trouble losing BF and in the past he had put on weight with a 6 meal a day thing. End of the day we need more information.
