Default Supplements?

I am currently on a cutting phase. I am around 215 lbs, looking to get around 195 lbs before bulking. I currently watch my diet well, and I am making great progress. I use ON Whey for my post workout, but I work-out around 9 pm and I go to bed around 10:30-11.

Is it okay to use Whey protein just before bed, or should I go to a whey/casein mix? Also, I take a multi-vitamin. Are there any other supplements you all would recommend. I am following the beginner workout of BOM and I am currently starting week 2 today. I have been following my current (and I hate to use this word) diet for about 5 weeks and I have lost around 12 lbs.

I am really trying to spread my meals out more as I have had success with this style of eating before. It is hard, because I am stationed in Kuwait and can not shop for my own food. I eat in the dining facility 2-3 times a day and I mostly eat Tuna and the baked fish. I stay away from sweets and bad carbs. Nothing fried! I couldn't tell you what a typical day of my diet looks like as my options change everyday. However, I always eat my veggies and have my fruit earlier in the day. I try to eat most of my protein pre-workout and post workout. I also spread some through the day. I stay away from bad fats, and try to stay lower than 15-20% of my total caloric intake. Any advice would be great, as well as any recommendations for supplements. Thanks...

JJ

I forgot to mention I am around 6'4". I don't know if that helps anyone answer anything else, but maybe it will. Also, I am just trying to cut bodyfat and weight at this time. So far, things seem to be working. I just wanted some supplement suggesions. I have cycled creatine before, and I had success with it. But I don't have any at this time. I read another post where it was pretty much suggested for everyone. Can you still keep your vascularity with the creatine? Thanks for the advice.

I would say that if you're trying to lose weight, go to just casein at night. Drop the whey. Extra calories. Really just a half cup of low fat cottage cheese and a few fish oil caps would be all i'd eat before bed if I was cutting weight.

Creatine may very well be helpful in maintaining your strength in the gym while working on a calorie deficit. It shouldn't mess with vascularity at all, but if you feel that it does, it's pretty easy to simply stop.

Other than fish oil and creatine (neither of which is just for cutting, but will certainly help your body during a weight-loss period) I'd say drink a TON of water. Again, not just for cutting, but it can help with energy and stamina while being short on caloric energy.

While I do believe that some of the caffeine-based fat-burners actually do help some people lose weight, I have never in my life recommended one (on here or at the store) because:

1. The benefits are largely caffeine-induced appetite suppression, which to me seems like a replacement for self-control.
2. Many, many people have complained about heart-palpations, lack of sleep and immune-system suppression leading to a cold.
3. The cost per bottle never seemed worth the small help they give.
4. All too often (though not in your case) people ask me about them "because they have no time to exercise". I immediately tell them not to buy the shit and find the time to exercise. I have been "scolded" for missing commissions like this. ("They come in looking to buy a $50 bottle of Xenadrine, and somehow they end up with you over there, looking at the $10 bottle of fish oil and holding a list of websites!!! )

Thats too funny RockHard. I have thought about the fish oil. I think they may have some here to buy. I will check on that. Sorry I didn't explain, I really wasn't looking for a fat loss supplement, I was looking more for recouperation and muscle building supplements. Thanks for the info. I do drink a ton of water. Usually over 3 litres a day. But at least 3 litres. I drink mostly water period. No sodas, pops, cokes, whatever you want to call them. I just don't drink them. Thanks for the info.
