Default Wu Long Tea and Fat Burning

Hey - just wondering if anyone's heard of this and has an opinion or more info? A friend fwded an ad to me that said that Wu Long (really oolong) tea was better at fat burning than green tea.

Here's a cut/paste from the ad:
"This tea is getting recognition around the world as being an aid in weight loss AND having huge health benefits!

Endorsed by Oprah and Rachael Ray.

Wulong tea is becoming one of the most popular teas designed to accelerate weight loss. Research shows drinking two cups of Wu-long every day not only helps shed stubborn pounds by boosting your metabolism, but also blocks the fattening effects of carbohydrates; promotes strong, healthy teeth; improves cognitive functioning and mental well-being; clarifies your skin, giving it a healthy, radiant glow and strengthens your immune system.

WULONG Burns over 157% more fat than green tea: In a study published in the August 2003 edition of the Journal of Medical Investigation, scientists from Japan's University of Tokushima School of Medicine found that people who drank two cups a day of Wulong experienced over 157% greater fat-burning results than those who drank the same amount of green tea. "

This study assumes that you know how much fat was burned by the addition of green tea. Maybe very little. So, 157% of very little is a little more.

Assuming your diet and exercise regimens are in order, you'll burn fat without tea.

I think all teas tend to be healthy. They're sorta like vegetable broth. Drink them all, black, green, white, oolong, Darjeeling, etc.

Rachel Ray's pretty cute, but svelte she ain't.

I think oolong tastes nasty, by the way.

I love oolong, and drink it almost as much as green. I think LD is right, that any "real" tea: white, green, oolong or black is going to have beneficial properties, including a little boost in the fatloss area. I would not, however, depend on it as a "fat burner".

Thanks guys. I have to admit, I got a little amped about the potential for even more fat burning. But I was surprised that the study was done in 2003 and there hasn't been more marketing hype surrounding this. (At least none that I've seen).

is no one else set off by "blocks the fattening effects of carbohydrates" part of the ad?

also, does anyone have the full version of the study to read just out of curiousity? i tend to agree with everyone else that any tea is good for you but as far as fatburning/metabolism, you really do need pretty large amounts of EGCG to get a noticeable effect (which is small at that anyway).
