Mass gainer
Hey guys,
The plan over the summer is to add a lot of mass and gain strength. I plan on eating and eating and eating and eating as clean as I possibly can. However, I know that sometimes I'll be on the run, so I'd like to have a backup option for a quick replacement meal I can mix up and grab on the go if I need it. Hence, I'm looking at a mass gainer/weight gainer/MRP/w/e you would like to call it. I was wondering if you guys had any particular favorites or recommendations. I've been checking out some of them online and reading some reviews. I'm not opposed to making a homemade shake/bar, but I'm looking for convenience here to fill in for a meal here and there. Thanks

I'd personally opt for home-made.
For a P+F shake (mostly, anyway), try:
1-2 tbsp Natty PB + 1 tbsp Ground Flax + 1 cup Cottage Cheese + 1 cup 2% Milk + 1 scoop Chocolate Whey
For a P+C shake, try
1 cup Frozen Berries + 1 cup Cottage Cheese + 1 scoop Vanilla Protein + 1 cup Oats (Ground) + Water (to get desired texture)
Those ought to put some meat on your bones

Those sound pretty good and I'll definitely give them a try, but how long do you think these would keep, even in the fridge. Like, if I were to make up 2 shakes in the morning, drink one, and save the other for later in the day, would it hold up well? I'm thinking if I kept it in a shaker bottle and shook it up before later consumption, it'd be fine. Am I correct in thinking this?

Hmm.. honestly I'm not too sure how well that would work. If you could freeze them, I think they'd stay mixed, then move them to the fridge an hour or so before you have it. Is that a possibility?

They're not as good after a few hours, but I make shakes and keep them a day or two, in the fridge.
Put them in something that you can at least shake again. At least to stir it up. If it's just a few hours, I've put a bunch of ice cubes in the bottle to keep it cold until later.

yeah those shakes that Milkman has suggested are very similar to ones I've been making. The homemade weight gainers will always trump the store bought versions.

No I don't have GN, but I'm getting ready to buy some books for the summer, and will definitely give it a look.

If you don't have that already you should go all out and get Percision Nutrition.

Jokerz: Whey protein is pretty easy to get a hold of and you can find it for a reasonable price. 100% Whey Protein is a popular one to get a hold of on the internet - its quality protein for a pretty cheap price. I get my whey at the local wholesale store, which is BJs. I don't know about Kansas, but stores like BJs, Sam's Club, Costco usually sell tubs of it.
I believe precision nutrition is Berardi's new product which contains GN.

CostCo has a different brand. Pro-Rated, in chocolate or vanilla. 6lb bag for $25.00. It's a mixture of whey, casein, and egg proteins.
