Question Veggie Servings...

2-cup container filled with green beans, peas, carrots, corn. How many servinings is that? 2? Or more...how do you measure servings on veggies?

How about nuts...peanuts, almonds, walnuts...how many per serving approximately?

Thanks in advance.

if it's a high calorie thing then I'll measure it by the oz (if you're really lazy just zero the scale with the tupperware vs the standard bowl) and just count it as however many servings it is.

vegis...1 serving

Depends on you "servings" goal. 1 cup of peas or winter squash has a lot more calories than 1 cup of brocolli or cauliflower. Also, you can typically fit more cooked veggies into the cup than you can raw veggies.

If your goal is to meet a 5 servings of veggies a day (or something) guideline, then I've seen them layed out as 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw. I say eat enough extra so that there's no question.

For shelled nuts and shelled seeds, a serving is typically 1 oz or 1/4 cup. I use those little disposable dixie cups, filled about 90% full. I just keep the cups in the cupboard next to my bags of nuts. Pumpkin and sunflower seeds (in the shell) are typically about 3/4 to 2/3 cup for a serving.

I've always weighed my veggies on a scale when there still frozen. Not sure if the serving weight (g.) is for frozen or cooked but I thing there would be a lot of water weight after steaming them. One cup goes for around 80-90g.

Serving sizes on nuts:

What I do is count it out a few times in a standard-sized cup of some sort (a dixie cup, for example). Then, you get an idea of how much of that particular cup is filled by 1 serving... and you don't have to count it out every time.
