Default McDonalds FYI

I know this shoudn't surprise anyone but it did me. The other day I was in a pinch and decided to pick up a quick salad from Mickey D's. They have a new grilled Asian chricken salad so I gave it a try. Not too bad but the dressing was Newmans' Lite Sesame something or other. It tasted good but had HFCS.

Later that evening I went to the market and there on the shelf was the exact same dressing. To my surprise, the ingredients list DID NOT have HFCS on it. Could this be something that McD's requires be added? Or could it just not be listed in the grocery label? Could it be hidden? Hmmmm. Thoughts?

I wonder if the turnover at McDonald's takes longer - meaning the product is in the packet for use longer at McD's than it is in the bottle to sell at the store. I also doubt that McD's refridgerates their dressing - like you are supposed to once you open the bottle of dressing. So they may just require more preservatives.

I hate McDonalds.

Is HFCS an actual preservative? I thought is was just a type of sweetener. If I'm not mistaken, the dressing was cold when I got it.

I'm probably wrong, but I think it is a form of sweetener that preserves longer. I don't know.

You're right, Eric, HCFS has some preservative properties. Actually, any kind of sugar will do. That's why jam developed before refrigeration for preserving fruit. But those little packets are sealed and shouldn't need any more than a bottle of dressing would.

McDonald's has a strict control process over the flavors of what they serve. I wouldn't be suprised if they had a focus group to test the salad dressing and found the sweeter version scored higher.
