Default Read Labels!! ($@#&* Kroger Beans)

I cannot tell you how many times I've grabbed a can of Kroger (local food chain) Kidney Beans since they are often a few cents cheaper than my usual brand. I had checked the label of my usual brand in the past (Kidney Beans/Water/Salt) so I never paid attention. After consuming numerous cans of Kroger brand in the past I happened to look at the label today... Kidney Beans/Cane Sugar/High Fructose Corn Syrup/Water Threw the whole can in the trash!

It could just be a pinch... How sweet did they taste? Like beans or baked beans?

I'd rather not have the added sugar, and would avoid buying them, but I would have eaten them unless they were obviously sweet.

Tasted about the same, you're probably right. I also rinse the beans so my HFCS intake has probably been negligible. It just surprised me.

A pinch is a pinch to much in my opinion.

You wouldn’t put beans in a pie would you?

I am tired of food manufactures sneaking things in their food, I stay clear of HFCS at all cost. The way I see it, a little in your bread, and little in your beans, and your ketchup, and your salad dressing, adds up to be way more than I want to put in my body.

Let’s save the sugars for deserts, and keep beans healthy.

Yeah you definately have to watch out for some of the Kroger's brand stuff! Although, I love their bag of frozen chicken breasts....1 gram of fat and 45 grams of protein per breast.

I did the same thing with those Kroger beans. I was making some chili and needed a couple of cans. Then turned the can around, and there was that HFCS.

I got where I look at labels first, then worry about brand. I will pay a little more for brands not using HFCS.

The pinch in your bread is what makes the yeast produce all that gas thta makes the bread all puffy. You can make bread without it, but it will be more dense and/or take longer to rise, increasing the cost of the bread.

Also, the sugar has been digested by the yeast.

A pinch of sugar makes marinara sauce tasty. A mere pinch for a whole pot.

I'll say no to HFCS in large amounts, but in these small amounts, it has no discernable difference from table sugar. It's merely cheaper and easier for them to use.

A little bit of sugar can go a long way to making food tasty.
