Default New Article shows that protein rich diet is wrong for building muscle

SOURCE: http:www.sientisttoday.com
April 1, 2006

Protein, Not the proven link to muscle development

A new study for the sientist today reinforces serious concerns regarding common protein intake in the weight lifting fraternity

by April Folso

Echoing the results other protein studies, two scientific teams now report that protein is not the major factor in building muscle, in fact it may actualy prevent the growth of muscle, whilst diets rich in fats as found in junk foods may speed the growth process.

Protein overloading is the third most common cause of obesity in men worldwide with 543,000 new cases each year

Lead researcher Olaf Sopril PhD, from Norways Sports and Nutrition research centre said the results of his research suggest that diets rich in protein actualy lead to increased catabolsim of muscle.

Dr. Sopril’s team found that due to protein being broken down by the various amalases in the mouth, this restricted the rate of pyruvic acid production. If the muscle fiber has a lot of mitochondria (and therefore more Pyruvate Dehydrogenase), pyruvate will tend to be converted to Acetyl CoA and move into the mitochondria, with relatively little lactate production. Additionally, fatty acid metabolism will account for a higher percentage of the ATP need.

Fat on the other hand does not produce lactate, ever! Therefore the link was shown that to workout on a high fat diet meant that lactate threshold would take a considerbale longer time to be achieved.

Excellent news. I'm throwing all my eggs into the trash and going to the gas station to buy out the Kit-Kat Bars.

That's funny, considering they don't even have an April 1st, in Britain.
