Default Almonds

OK...I've tried to eat the more healthy raw almonds...they are disgusting. I don't know how one can eat a significant number of these things. They say to keep at it and you soon "enjoy the natural taste of foods" but I have to argue against raw almonds. Roasted ones, I can eat all day but these raw things...it's taken me over a month to eat this 8oz bag becuase I can't stand to eat more than 8 or 10 in a sitting. Maybe that's the point?

I know they're better but if I don't eat enough because of the taste, what good does that do?

What kind of almonds are you all eating?

Ted

I eat the unsalted, roasted almonds...don't know what could be bad about them. Did someone specifically recommend raw almonds as opposed to roasted ones?

If you can't stand the raw almonds just don't eat them. Just eat the unsalted roasted almonds, which are still great. It's most likely a hell of a lot better than what your were eating in place of it before.

I love 'm too, but my wife HATES 'm. So I kinda get what you're going through. I would try:
- Roasting slivered almonds with green beans
- Mix with dried fruit
- Put some in your cereal
- Put some in your salad
That's the best I can come up with.

Heat up a bunch of water to a boil.
Take it off the burner and soak almonds in it covering the container for about 15 minutes. You can then peel off the skin and then let the "naked" almonds (that's what we call them here) dry off at low heat in the oven,or just eat them like this. They are soft and yummy!

I love raw almonds, I would eat them all day but I think that would make me fat. So I usually limit myself to 28 at a time, and usually not more than once a day. I have always liked them, so there was no getting use to for me. Lately I have been eating raisins and cashews, and they taste great, but I am not sure if that is as good of an option.

I was told that the oils that they roast them in contain trans-fats many times and that the best option would be unsalted, unroasted raw almonds. But if that prevents me from eating them at all...that can't be better.

That was gonna be my suggestion.

Nothing saying you couldn't say take the almonds, toss them in a little olive oil, sprinkle with some Mrs. Dash or dried chilli peppers and roast em in your own oven.

Bon apetit!

If you roast your own, just be careful not to overdo it. I tried once and overcooked a HUGE bunch of raw almonds. They tasted like charcoal, yet I still forced myself to eat some of them because I didn't want them to be wasted! Finally, I just threw them out.

I've read that a lot of nuts are roasted in oils/fats containing transfats, but I've never seen one where that's the case. Maybe some weird mixed nut mixture at a discount store or something.

Even mainstream roasted almonds at the 7-11 are roasted in plain old oil or dry roasted.

I love them but God, do they leave a nasty after taste... I feel bad for any clients that have to deal with my toxic sour ass breath after I snack on a few raw almonds...

to each their own BFG, all I know is I've been in single digit BF several times and eat a lot of almonds. On the other hand, I wouldn't eat a salad if someone paid me... I love veggies and all, but salad is for animals and fat people at the salad bar! LOL

yeh salad is a bit boring aftr a while!!!! I just dont eat nuts to be honest never really liked them at all anyway. Its not that they are bad as almonds are seen to be good to speed up metabolism but I just think there are better nutrient dense options for less calories that will keep me fuller for longer
